IDW celebrates Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday next year with ‘Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition’

New edition collects comics featuring by Inhumans and the first appearance of Franklin Richards, as created by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and Joe Sinnott.

Legendary comics creator Jack Kirby would have turned 100 next year, and to help celebrate the occasion IDW Publishing will release Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition in January.

The new edition collects issues #82 and #83, featuring the Inhumans, and the 48-page Fantastic Four Annual #6, “all captured directly from Jack Kirby’s original art.” Kirby worked with Stan Lee and Joe Sinnott on these stories.

“These issues of Fantastic Four represent Jack Kirby operating at the top of his game, which is about as high a compliment as I can pay a comic book,” said noted comics historian and Kirby biographer Mark Evanier. “As a reader, I felt like the fifth member of the Fantastic Four—and that was in the small format with the bad printing. When I get the IDW book, I will probably want to move into it and live there.”

IDW has already published Artist’s Editions of several Kirby comics, including his work on Thor, Mister Miracle and New Gods. “What better way is there to kick off Jack Kirby’s centennial birthday year than by releasing our first Kirby Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition?” said editor Scott Dunbier. “And did you catch how I said first?”
