Samurai Jack returns to comics

Genndy Tartakovsky’s popular animated samurai returns in a new comic by Fabian Rangel Jr. and Warwick Johnson Cadwell.

Samurai Jack returns to comics this fall for a new series by Fabian Rangel Jr. and Warwick Johnson Cadwell, the team behind IDW’s recent “Helena Crash” series.

Titled “Quantum Jack,” the new series will send Jack to alternate realities with “his memories erased, but his spirit intact,” as he becomes the leader of a biker gang and more. It sounds kind of like “Quantum Leap,” only with Genndy Tartakovsky’s popular animated character doing the leaping.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be working on new Samurai Jack comics,” Rangel Jr. said in a press release. “Samurai Jack is a huge influence on my storytelling, and on ‘Helena Crash’ especially. I think fans of the show will dig what Warwick and I have been cooking up!”

This is the second “Samurai Jack” comic from IDW, following the previous 20-issue series that wrapped in 2015 by Jim Zub and Andy Suriano.

“Samurai Jack has been an inspiration and constant source of encouragement for me since I first saw it, in terms of art, narrative, and just plain enjoyment. It’s fantastic to be able to work on and I hope our love for the show will come through in what Fabian and I are doing here,” Cadwell said in the release.

Michael Avon Oeming, Alexis Zirritt and Tartakovsky will provide cover art for the debut issue, which comes out in September.
