In honor of Black History Month, artist Francesco Francavilla has been sharing portraits he’s done of various Black athletes, including Jack Johnson, Wally Triplett and Alice Coachman. He’s been sharing them on both his Tumblr and his Twitter feeds.
The creator, whose work on Will Eisner’s The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers miniseries recently wrapped up, says he’s been learning a lot about history from the endeavor:

What I am really enjoying doing these is that I'm learning so much about African-American history, which is kinda the point here so I hope you guys are learning something too (& look these icons up)
