DC announces ‘Strange Adventures’ by King + Shaner + Gerads

Adam Strange will fly again in 2020.

It started with teases this weekend — Tom King and Mitch Gerads, the award-winning team behind DC’s Mister Miracle miniseries, have a new project in the works. That fans, naturally, kept asking about.

“So here’s the deal. It doesn’t come out for awhile, so SDCC might be a little early to announce it,” Gerads said on Twitter. “BUT DC has told us if the Eisners go well for us tonight then we can announce it tomorrow! So fingers crossed! I’ve got covers and info ready to go!”

Things went very well for them at the Eisners Friday night, and DC was true to their word — this morning they announced via Twitter Strange Adventures, featuring Adam Strange, by Tom King, Mitch Gerads and — get this — Evan “Doc” Shaner, a man who was born to work on Adam Strange.

The tweet came with two images:

Preview: First look at ‘Snowpiercer’ prequel

Titan Comics will release ‘Snowpiercer: Extinction’ in September.

Here’s a preview to get your mind off the midsummer heat: A first look at Snowpiercer: Extinction, the prequel to the original Snowpiercer graphic novel… wait, it’s complicated.

The original Snowpiercer series was published as four volumes in French, with art by Jean-Marc Rochette and scripts from three different writers: The Escape, by Jacques Lob, The Explorers and The Crossing, by Benjamin Legrand, and Terminus, by Olivier Bocquet. When they were published in English by Titan Comics, The Explorers and The Crossing were combined into a single volume.

The series has an absolutely smashing premise: In a post-apocalyptic ice-ridden world, the remnants of humanity travel across the snow-covered landscape in a very, very long train. As in life, there are different classes with different levels of privilege aboard this train: The wealthy ride in luxurious quarters toward the front of the train, while the less well-off travel in squalor at the rear. What’s more, that train can’t run forever, so change is coming no matter what. When some folks from the rear start to move toward the front, the entire equilibrium is upset. The first volume was adapted into a film in 2013.

Marvel heads back into the ‘Spider-Verse’ this fall

New miniseries reunites Miles Morales with many of his Spider-friends, as well as fan-made #Spidersonas.

With the success and critical acclaim that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse received — not to mention the awesome Spidersona artwork pros and fans created after seeing it — it makes sense that Marvel would make more Spider-Verse comics.

Coming in October, they’re doing just that — writer Jed MacKay and a bunch of artists will take Miles Morales on a six-issue tour of the multiverse. MacKay will work with Juan Frigeri, Arthur Adams, Stuart Immonen, Stacey Lee and more, according to Marvel.com.

“I am a social justice warrior,” Miranda-Rodriguez proudly said during his acceptance speech last night, noting the history comic books have in fighting for social justice. He has posted his powerful speech on YouTube, which you can watch in full below.
