Aja + Nocenti’s ‘The Seeds’ will wrap up this December

A trade paperback collecting the entire story arrives just in time for Christmas.

The long-delayed ending to writer Ann Nocenti and artist, colorist and letterer David Aja‘s ‘The Seeds’ will arrive in December. Dark Horse has announced that the entire story will be collected and released as a trade paperback.

The Seeds was announced back in 2017 as one of the launch titles in the Berger Books line, which is spearheaded by veteran editor Karen Berger. Originally intended as a four-issue miniseries, only two issues were published.

“I’m so thrilled to finally to share our hopeful dystopian tale The Seeds with everyone,” Nocenti said. “Grateful for the patience of the readers for our slow-growing Seeds. At this point the characters feel like family, even our nasty aliens. And who knows? Maybe all the world needs is a love story between an alien and a human to lead us someplace better…”

If you missed the first two issues (which were excellent, by the way), here’s the description from the publisher:

An eco-fiction tech thriller-meets-love-story in The Seeds. In a broken-down world, a rebellious group of ruthless romantics have fled a tech-obsessed society to create their own… and a few cantankerous aliens have come to harvest the last seeds of humanity.

When one of them falls in love with a human, idealistic journalist Astra stumbles into the story of a lifetime, only to realize that if she reports it, she’ll destroy the last hope of a dying planet.

How far will she go for the truth?

Nocenti’s been one of my favorite writers ever since reading her run on Daredevil, and Aja’s work on books like Hawkeye has put him into a class by himself. It’s one of those great pairings of a writer and artist who both put a lot into the story, especially Aja in the visual design of the whole project.

“Maybe I can say what the aliens actually told me,” Aja said. “They came one night, it was a big dazzling spaceship. Or maybe it was a streetlight, I’m not sure. But I heard a voice. And that voice told me ‘feed the naked. And buy the Seeds.'”

The trade paperback will arrive in comic shops in Dec. 23.
