comiXology Originals announces three projects with Curt Pires

The digital comics imprint announces ‘Youth Season Two,’ ‘Lost Falls’ and ‘Memoria.’

With Youth Season One set to arrive in print this week from Dark Horse Comics, comiXology Originals has announced three new series with writer Curt Pires, including a second season of Youth that will debut on Tuesday.

They also announced two additional series Pires is writing: Lost Falls and Memoria.

“I’m very excited to finally pull back the curtain and unveil these projects we’ve spent the last year in the trenches working on,” said Pires. “With Youth Season Two, Lost Falls and Memoria, I issued a challenge to myself and my teams to make the greatest comics we could—comics that rival the greatest comics published anywhere by anyone in any format—and I’m excited to unveil the results of our labor. These books represent what I believe to be the future of comics: bold innovative genre storytelling that’s representative of our diverse and expansive modern world. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.”

Written by Pires with art by Alex Diotto, who he worked with on Olympia, Youth is currently in development by Amazon Studios, with Pires executive producing it. It’s the story of two queer teens who leave their bigoted home town for California, and along the way make some new friends and develop super powers. Colorist Dee Cunniffe and letterer Micah Myers round out the creative team for both seasons of Youth.

In Youth Season Two, which arrives April 6, six months have passed since the events of the first story. It will continue to tell the story of the core cast, but will also introduce new characters from all across the globe.

Here’s a preview:

Lost Falls, meanwhile. is described as “a social minded mystery box thriller” and reunites Pires with Antonio Fuso, who he worked with on Wyrd. Pierluigi Minotti and Lee Loughridge round out the art team.

Here’s the description:

When Detective Daniel Pynchon Wakes up in Lost Falls, on the shore with no recollection of how he got there, he struggles to piece together the events that lead him there.

As he investigates the phenomenon surrounding his memory loss and the town itself, he discovers horrors both human and otherwise.

TWIN PEAKS meets LOVECRAFT COUNTRY in this socially minded mystery thriller.

Finally, there’s Memoria, by Pires, Sunando C and Mark Dale:

When an old, ill detective and a young burnout detective are partnered up and saddled with an unsolvable case, they begin to unravel a sprawling conspiracy that points to one thing: A serial killer who has murdered hundreds. As they further investigate the case they make discoveries that will force them to question everything and everyone they know.

TRUE DETECTIVE meets LETHAL WEAPON and the films of DAVID FINCHER in this sprawling crime drama.

More information and release dates for Memoria or Lost Falls are expected in the coming months.
