Grayson + Adamovic conjure up the magical realism story ‘Rewild’

The new graphic novel will be published by Berger Books/Dark Horse in October.

Berger Books, the Dark Horse imprint run by Karen Berger, has announced a new magical realism graphic novel that will arrive in October — Rewild, by writer Devin Grayson, artist Yana Adamovic and letterer Sal Cipriano.

“Beautifully written and illustrated, Devin and Yana have crafted captivating characters in a timely tale where reality, myth and magic overlap,” Berger said. “This lyrical and powerful story deals with the fragility of the mind and our planet in unforgettable ways.”

According to the press release, Rewild is Adamovic’s American debut; previously she’s worked as a colorist and artist for the French comic publisher Delcourt Editions since 2014. She was recently knighted by the French Minister of Culture. Grayson, meanwhile, has written various comics over the last 20 years, most recently Omni for Humanoids and Widowmakers for Marvel.

The new book will blur the lines between fantasy and reality, according to the description: The lines between fantasy and reality are blurred in this dark, environmentally-themed magical realist tale. Poe is a mysterious young homeless woman and self-proclaimed fairy changeling. Demond is an enterprising engineer with a troubled past. When Poe demands that a park be built to appease a dangerous new mutation of mythical creatures, ravaged by climate change and furious with the human race, Demond must question not only his own sanity, but the rationality of our entire species as he struggles to save his city– and maybe even the world.

Rewild arrives in comic shops Oct. 27 and in bookstores Nov. 9.
