Timm & Klein honor ‘The King’ on San Diego souvenir book

Comic-Con International’s annual publication will pay tribute to Jack Kirby, in honor of his 100th birthday.

Every year Comic-Con International in San Diego pays tribute to various anniversaries in their annual Souvenir Book, which features artists contributing pieces related to whatever comic or pop culture phenomenon is celebrating a milestone. With the upcoming 100th birthday of legendary comics creator Jack Kirby, this year’s edition will feature a cover by Bruce Timm of Batman: The Animated Series fame (which is also celebrating an anniversary) that honors the King in two ways.

TCAF: Translator stopped at Canadian border

While en route to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF), translator and agent Anne Ishii was detained at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto for over two hours yesterday as Canadian customs officers questioned her and went through every book in her luggage to determine whether she was bringing comics illegally into the country.

Usagi Yojimbo meets the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles again this summer

IDW will publish a one-shot featuring Stan Sakai’s famous ronin rabbit encountering the current rendition of the Turtles.

Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo will once again team with Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a new one-shot, coming from IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics this summer.

WildStorm celebrates 25 years with hardcover collection

Image Comics’ 25th anniversary also marks the 25th one for the studios that formed around the seven creators who formed the publisher — including Jim Lee’s WildStorm. To celebrate this milestone, DC Comics will publish WildStorm: A Celebration of 25 Years, which is due out in August.

Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler team on first Black Crown title

‘Kid Lobotomy,’ the first comic from Shelly Bond’s new imprint at IDW, debuts in October.

At WonderCon on Friday, IDW announced the first title for Shelly Bond’s new Black Crown imprint — Kid Lobotomy by Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler.

As announced earlier this month, Black Crown is a new line of connected, creator-owned comics, spearheaded by the former Vertigo editor and published by IDW. “Black Crown” refers not only to the creator-owned imprint, but also a pub that anchors a mysterious street that connects each comic.

Image announces everything and the kitchen sink at ECCC

New projects from Ales Kot, Joe Casey, Joe Keatinge, Declan Shalvey, Matt Wagner, Jeff Lemire, Phil Hester and more announced at Emerald City Comic Con.

For the past few years Image Comics has held an Image Expo, which is kind of their own mini-convention where they feature creators and make announcements. Since they ended up skipping it this year (it’ll be back in 2018) they used their Thursday panel at the Emerald City Comic Con to unleash a huge slew of comic book announcements.
