Two new artists join DC’s Artist Alley statue line

Joe Ledbetter and Chrissie Zullo will tackle a range of DC characters in the popular vinyl figures line next year.

Two new creators are moving into DC’s Artist Alley, as Joe Ledbetter and Chrissie Zullo join the likes of Chris Uminga, HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque and Sho Murase in creating vinyl statues for the line.

Ledbetter will put his signature spin on Batman, Penguin, Catwoman and Robin.

“I’m a huge Batman fan and to have the opportunity to work with DC Collectibles on a set of Batman characters is a huge deal in my world,” Ledbetter said in a press release. “I just love the idea of a bat in a Batman suit, a penguin as the Penguin, etc. There’s something there that’s quite funny and interesting and really excites me. I like to think that these animal Batman characters inhabit a parallel universe where Gotham City is entirely populated by anthropomorphic critters, including the Caped Crusader himself. I think the fun, enthusiasm and love of Batman, Robin, Penguin and Catwoman will shine through on these designer toys and I hope they find a special place on collector’s shelves.”

DC Collectibles adds Flash, Nightwing, Batgirl to their ‘Artist Alley’ statue line

New designer vinyl figures include Chris Uminga’s Flash, HaiNaNu ‘Nooligan’ Saulque’s Nightwing and Sho Murase’s Batgirl.

DC Collectibles has revealed some new additions to their “DC Artist Alley” line, which debuts in about a month.

“The DC Artists Alley line marks our entry into the designer toy market, and we couldn’t be happier with the fan and retailer reception we’ve received thus far,” stated Jim Fletcher, executive creative director of DC Collectibles. “The first wave has nearly sold out at the retailer level, and the figures haven’t even hit stores yet. We’re doubling down on this excitement by adding three new characters to the 2018 lineup.”

DC Collectibles will offer black and white variant editions of The Flash and Nightwing figures, and a vibrant green holiday variant for Murase’s Batgirl design. These new additions will be released in December. Take a look at them below:

Cryptozoic pumps it up with collectible DC high heels

Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl and more inspire line of ‘DC Pumps.’

Cryptozoic Entertainment is releasing a line of collectible shoes inspired by “the costumes, props, and personalities of DC’s favorite female heroes and villains.”

The “Pumps” line will include nine 2.25-inch vinyl figures of miniature high-heeled shoes — each with its own “blind reveal” shoebox — finished with pearlescent, metallic and/or glitter paint. The shoes included in wave one are Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, Catwoman, Batgirl, Hawkgirl, Poison Ivy, Mera and Black Canary.

DC Pumps will be available at retailers this month for a suggested retail price of $9.99 each. You can see them “in action” in this unboxing video.

Check out David Petersen’s ‘Mouse Guard’ poster for Mondo

New poster spotlighting his creation ships in November.

Mouse Guard creator David Petersen has done a coupe of posters for Mondo in the past, but never one of his own creations — until now.

Petersen has created a poster based on Mouse Guard: Fall 1152, the first story he created featuring his diminutive warriors.

“For the Fall 1152 poster I needed to re-create the events of that book in one image that summed everything up,” he wrote on his blog. “No problem, right? Harder than you think. I started with the idea that I should have the 3 main mouse characters as well as the snake (everyone still remembers that scene from the first issue). So, I sketched on copy paper, Lieam, Saxon and Kenzie with the plan to put Lieam front and center, with the other two either side of him. The snake would loom up over them from behind.”

Ed Piskor brings his distinct style to Nike’s Air Force 1 sneaker

The ‘Hip Hop Family Tree’ creator covers both the shoe’s box and creates a new comic about its creators.

Hip Hop Family Tree and X-Men: Grand Design creator Ed Piskor is teaming up with Nike to put his stamp on a special edition Field Air Force 1 Mid “For Baltimore” sneaker.

“If I do work for hire, I’m only going to work on dream projects or things that blow my mind,” he told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Wear Kirby’s ‘Lord of Light’ artwork on your torso

Wrap your body in the King’s artwork, courtesy of Heavy Metal magazine and T-shirt site Threadless.

If you’ve seen the movie Argo you know about the role comics legend Jack Kirby’s artwork played in the rescue of Americans from Tehran during the U.S./Iran hostage crisis in 1980. The artwork was originally created for a movie adaptation of Roger Zelazney’s Lord of Light, which never saw production but ended up becoming a part of history.

Heavy Metal magazine and the T-shirt site Threadless have teamed up to take those pieces of history and turn them into something you can wear, as you can see right here on Threadless’ Heavy Metal subsite. They have 13 different shirts featuring the King’s artwork, colored by Mark Englert in 2015. Take a look at some of them below.

Batgirl and Supergirl hit the road as ‘Gotham City Garage’ statues

DC Collectibles reveals new Gotham City Garage, DC Bombshells merch at Comic-Con.

After announcing a Gotham City Garage comic last week, DC Collectibles revealed two new sculptures at Comic-Con International for the popular series. One features Batgirl showing off her skills, while the other features Supergirl.

“The idea behind Gotham City Garage is to explore the tough and gritty alter-egos of DC’s most iconic characters such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and now Batgirl and Supergirl,” said Jim Fletcher, executive creative director, DC Collectibles. “Just like with DC Bombshells, it’s exciting to see these character designs strike a chord with fans and transcend from statues into comic books and beyond, and we’re eager to find out just how far Gotham City Garage can ride.”

DC Collectibles reveals more Artist Alley statues

At Comic-Con this week, DC revealed new designs by Sho Murase, HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque and Chris Uminga.

Back in May DC Collectibles announced a new line of “Artist Alley” vinyl statues that “merges indie design with the most iconic characters in the DC Universe.” During Comic-Con International this week, they revealed additional sculpts by the artists tapped for the first wave. The new figures revealed this week include Wonder Woman by Chris Uminga, Batman by HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque, and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn by Sho Murase.

I can’t express how much I adore this Harley Quinn ‘Expressions’ figure

DC Collectibles releases images of several new ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ figures and toys, including a Jokermobile.

DC Collectibles has been releasing and revealing new action figures based on the Batman: The Animated Series designs that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm made so popular. Some of them fall into the “Expressions” line, where the figures come with extra faces with, as you might guess, different expressions. We’ve seen Batman and Joker, but at Comic-Con International this week they revealed the best one so far — Harley Quinn.

Variant ‘Redneck’ cover spawns a shirt for a good cause

The Pride Month variant covercby Ed Luce for the Skybound title is now a T-shirt benefiting The Trevor Project.

Redneck #3, the Image Comics/Skybound title about Texas vampires by Donny Cates, Lisandro Estherren and Dee Cunniffe, will help celebrate Pride month this week with a variant cover by Ed Luce. Andrew MacLean’s ‘Head Lopper’ goes vinyl

Get your own vinyl figure of Norgal, the head-lopping star of the Image Comics title.

Norgal, the star of Andrew MacLean’s Head Lopper title, will become a fist-pumping vinyl figure, thanks to Skelton Crew Studio.

Skelton Crew will produce two different Norgal figures — your standard Norgal, and your “bog blue” variant. You can purchase them now for $48 each; after July 2 the regular Norgal will go up in price to $55, while blue Norgal will no longer be available. Also, if you order the regular one in June, you’ll get a map of Barra, the setting for Norgal’s head lopping in the first four issues of the Image Comics title.
