Both series will kick off in July.
Two movies that are now several decades old will get sequels of sorts in comic book form, as DC has announced the digital series Superman ’78 and Batman ’89.
Screenwriter Sam Hamm, who wrote the 1989 film Batman and its first sequel, Batman Returns, will write Batman ’89. The Dc Digital First series will be drawn by artist Joe Quinones.

DC Comics released their May solicitations on Friday, and with them came several announcements and reveals throughout the week. In addition to the new Wonder Girl, Mister Miracle and Future State: Gotham projects, DC announced they will release two interesting one-shots — the first being Star Girl one-shot, featuring not only the star of the hit CW show, but also the Seven Soldiers of Victory. It’s by the character’s co-creator, Geoff Johns, and artist Todd Nauck.

DC Comics has revealed more details on the planned Milestone Media relaunch, which includes plans to re-release the Milestone Returns #0 comic released during DC FanDome with additional material, as well as digital-first series featuring Static, Icon, Rocket and Hardware.
“Since the FanDome panel, Reggie , Denys , and our editorial team have been working incredibly hard to bring this new Milestone to life,” said Jim Lee, DC publisher and chief creative officer. “It’s been exciting to see fresh and contemporary takes on the Dakota universe coming together; I think that both new fans and old will be pleased with the results.”

A classic anthology series from DC will get a digital makeover in April, as the publisher has announced the return of Legends of the Dark Knight.
The new series will kick off with a six-part story written and drawn by The Boys artist Darick Robertson, featuring a new foe who sells deadly chemicals to Gotham’s worst villains.
“Dream come true,” Robertson said on Twitter. “I’m writing and drawing one of my favorite characters ever.”

Chip Zdarsky, Miguel Mendonça and Enrica Eren Angiolini will explore what happens after the Justice League breaks up in Justice League: Last Ride, a DC Digital First series coming in April.
After an “unthinkable tragedy,” the League split up, but the universe’s greatest murder trial pulls them back together. “It’s about the Justice League being cut down at their height, about hard decisions and friendship,” Zdarsky said in his email newsletter. “They’re brought together for the universe’s greatest murder trial in the hopes that they can create a universe that no longer needs a Justice League.”

DC has announced that at least one of the time periods and plot lines introduced last month during their Future State event will continue past the end of the event. If you’ve been enjoying the Magistrate story running through the Batman titles, you’ll be happy to know that the story will continue in Future State: Gotham in May.
This six-issue debut story arc will be co-written by Joshua Williamson and Dennis Culver, with art by Giannis Milonogiannis and covers by Yasmine Putri and James Stokoe. It’ll focus on Jason Todd, aka the Red Hood, has turned on the rest of the Batman family and now hunts masked heroes for the Magistrate, the mercenary force that has taken over Gotham. It will also be “rendered in stark, black and white tones,” according to the press release.
“Future State: Gotham pulls from ALL the Future State Bat-Books,” Williamson said on Twitter. “It’s going to surprise you. Be sure to read Dark Detective #4 and the Red Hood back-up as that is a massive prelude to this new series coming in May!”

DC stated before that they had more plans for Yara Flor, the breakout star of DC’s Future State: Wonder Woman title, and now they’ve made it official — The new Wonder Girl title will kick off in May, written and drawn by Joelle Jones.
Jones will be joined by colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Clayton Cowles.

Shilo Norman, the Mister Miracle currently appearing in two of DC’s Future State Superman titles, will get his own miniseries in May. Brandon Easton and Valentine De Landro, who worked on the Mister Miracle story in Superman: Worlds of War, are also working on the miniseries.
“This series functions as a de facto origin story and a reintroduction of Shilo Norman,” said Easton. “Fico and I have a fantastic opportunity to establish him as a major hero in the DC pantheon, while making him a more complex character.”
Shilo Norman was introduced in the early 1970s in the pages of Mister Miracle by Jack Kirby. He became a protege of Scott Free, the original Mister Miracle, and appeared in the Seven Soldiers events series written by Grant Morrison.

Dark Nights: Death Metal is staging a world tour this year, and they’re bringing some real metal bands along for the ride.
DC has announced Dark Nights: Death Metal – Band Edition variant covers, which will be published in eight different countries starting in March. And the covers will feature various characters from the miniseries, like the Batman Who Laughs, along with seven different metal bands. Each issue will also feature an introduction from the band and an exclusive interview. The lineup includes:

Damian Wayne will meet his match in the halls of his local middle school in the upcoming graphic novel Batman and Robin and Howard, by Jeffrey Brown.
The story will feature Brown’s trademark style, which has appeared in books like Incredible Change-Bots, the Sulk trilogy, Space-Time, Lucy & Andy Neanderthal, Clumsy and the Darth Vader and Son line of books from Lucasfilm.
According to DC, the project “offers a down-to-earth look at Gotham’s two most famous heroes packed with laughs, whimsy and clever life lessons sure to please fans of Batman and Brown alike.” DC’s library of titles aimed at middle school kids has been growing exponentially since it was announced a few years ago, and Brown seems like the perfect creator to recruit for their efforts on that front. If this isn’t followed by a Batman and Son book, I’ll be crushed. Money on the table, DC!
“I actually had the basic story kicking around for years—two all-star teenagers who start as rivals but end up becoming friends to save homecoming,” Brown told dccomics.com. “When I had the chance to do a book with DC Kids, that story finally came together in my mind. Robin seemed like the perfect character to throw into the situation—someone used to being the best, only to realize sometimes they were only second best.”
