John Carpenter + Anthony Burch re-team for a Joker one-shot

“Year of the Villain” tie-in will feature art by Philip Tan and Marc Deering.

If you need a scary Joker, go to the master. DC has announced that John Carpenter, the writer/director/producer behind Halloween, Escape from New York and Vampires, among many others, will co-write a Joker one-shot this October.

The Joker is the greatest villain in comics,” Carpenter said in a press release.  “I’m proud to be reunited with Anthony on this project.”

Joining Carpenter is Anthony Burch, writer of the video games Borderlands 2 and League of Legends, and who worked with Carpenter on BOOM! Studios’ Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack series. They’ll be joined by artists Philip Tan and Marc Deering.

Neal Adams to write and draw ‘Batman vs. Ra’s al Ghul’

DC’s ‘Year of the Villain’ continues in August with a new miniseries about one of Batman’s greatest foes.

DC Comics is giving the devil his due this year in their “Year of the Villain” event, which will come to a head in the fall with lots of broken comic logos. But before that, Neal Adams will pit Batman against his son’s grandfather, Ra’s al Ghul, in a six-issue miniseries.

DC announces ‘Year of the Villain’ 25-cent comic

The almost-free comic arrives a few days before this year’s Free Comic Book Day.

Just prior to Free Comic Book Day, DC Comics will release a 25-cent DC Year of the Villain comic that spotlights several villains and sets the stage for future stories.

The book will include stories by Scott Snyder, Brian Michael Bendis, James Tynion IV, Jim Cheung, Francis Manapul and Alex Maleev, with a cover by Greg Capullo. Variant cover artists include Maleev and Cheung, as well as Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.
