NYCC: Marvel announces new projects featuring Bloodline, Bishop and more

The Marvel’s Voices panel at the New York Comic Con brought news from Wakanda, Krakoa and the far reaches of space.

During their Marvel’s Voices panel at the New York Comic Con today, Marvel announced several upcoming projects for February that tie into Black History Month, including a new Marvel’s Voices anthology, a Bloodline miniseries and more.

Let’s start with the new Marvel’s Voices anthology, which this time around will focus on a specific set of characters: Marvel’s Voices: Wakanda Forever. The stories will feature Black Panther, Shuri, Okoye and more by as-yet-unrevealed creative teams.

NYCC: Marvel, Viz announce three new manga titles for next year

‘Wolverine: Snikt!’ will return to print, plus a new Yusuke Osawa Spider-Man story and a tribute anthology were announced.

Marvel and Viz Media have announced three manga titles featuring Wolverine, Spider-Man and more for next year, as part of their ongoing collaboration.

Wolverine: Snikt! reprints the 2003 miniseries by Tsutomu Nihei, which was part of their Tsunami imprint. Spider-Man: Fake Red by Yusuke Osawa features an awkward teenager finding one of Spider-Man’s suits, while the Marvel Comics: A Manga Tribute hardcover will feature stories by more than 20 artists, including Yoshitaka Amano, Ken Niimura, Kia Asamiya, Mizuki Sakakibara, Peach Momoko, Q Hayashida, Sana Takeda and more.

NYCC: ‘Cold War’ puts the heat on the Winter Soldier + Nomad next year

Marvel reveals more details + art from their Captain America-centered crossover that’s coming in 2023.

Marvel announced its first crossover between its two Captain America titles earlier this year — Cold War will feature both Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, not to mention Bucky Barnes, Ian Rogers, the White Wolf and more.

At New York Comic Con this week, Marvel revealed a few more details about the event, which will run through both Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty and Captain America: Symbol of Truth — not to mention the requisite tie-in one-shots. Speaking of which, Marvel revealed some variant cover art for Captain America & the Winter Soldier Special #1, which was announced last month. Here’s Carmen Carnero’s variant:

Paul Levitz makes his Marvel for the first time

Levitz and Alan Davis team up on a new Avengers miniseries next year.

Paul Levitz, the veteran DC executive and current BOOM! Studios board member, will make his Marvel Comics writing debut in January with Avengers: War Across Time.

Levitz will work with another veteran creator, Alan Davis, known for his work on Excalibur, The Nail, Captain Britain and countless others, on a tale set in the Avengers’ past. The story will be set in the team’s early days, circa issue #11 by Stan Lee and Don Heck, with Kang as the villain.

“I learned much of my writing craft from The Avengers, and it’s been a delight to pay homage to my old friends Stan, Jack and Don by trying to do something that might have been an extended issue #11.1,” Levitz explained. “We’ve been cooking this up for a long time, and I hope readers have as much fun with it as I did.”

Orlando + Pichelli conjure up a new ‘Scarlet Witch’ title

The Scarlet Witch gets a new status quo as she runs a witchcraft shop aimed at helping the hopeless.

Wanda Maximoff will once again take the spotlight in a new solo ongoing series by Steve Orlando, Sara Pichelli and Matt Wilson.

The Scarlet Witch will feature Wanda taking a new role — as the proprietor of a witchcraft shop that appears to those who need it the most.

“Since I first stepped into the House of Ideas, the Scarlet Witch has been with me—in fact, she was the star of my first Marvel work ever, kicking ass, weaving spells, and humbling Doom in Darkhold! So, there was no way I could pass up the chance to work on Scarlet Witch,” Orlando said. “Wanda Maximoff has finally broken free of the shadows she’s wrestled with for years. And now? Sara Pichelli, Russell Dauterman and I are unveiling the next chapter of her powerful, improbable, magical life. When you have nowhere else to turn…you turn to the Scarlet Witch. And God help anyone who gets in her way.”

‘Avengers Assemble’ wraps up Jason Aaron’s Avengers run

The crossover event kicks off in December with an “Alpha” issue.

The upcoming Avengers Assemble crossover, which will bring together Avengers, Avengers Forever and and the Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C., will wrap up Jason Aaron’s almost five-year run of Avengers stories, Marvel announced this week.

Announced this past July at the San Diego Comic-Con, Avengers Assemble kicks off with an “Alpha” issue in December, drawn by Bryan Hitch. Aaron has said the crossover, which will run through both Avengers and Avengers Forever, will bring together story elements not only from those two titles, but also his other work at Marvel. Marvel has not announced how long the crossover will go or when Aaron’s last issues of both titles will be.

“Four years of Avengers stories. Threads from really every major series I’ve worked on throughout my last decade and a half at Marvel, from Ghost Rider to Thor. It all leads to this. The biggest Avengers story I could possibly imagine,” Aaron said. “Featuring a cavalcade of characters from across creation. And I’m so deeply thrilled and honored that it all kicks off with an oversized ALPHA issue that’s being drawn by the legendary Bryan Hitch, who I’m getting to work with here for the very first time. Avengers Assemble. Say the words like a prayer. It’s the only thing that can save you.”

‘Miracleman’ #0 preview features Young Miracleman, Big Ben, a new Warpsmith and more

The one-shot anthology includes stories by Jason Aaron, Leinil Francis Yu, Ty Templeton, Ryan Stegman, Peach Momoko and more.

Marvel has revealed more details and some preview artwork from the upcoming Miracleman #0, a one-shot anthology that celebrates the character’s anniversary and return to comics. It will also preview Miracleman: The Silver Age, which marks the return of Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham to a story they began telling several decades ago.

Other creators contributing to the anthology include Jason Aaron, Leinil Francis Yu, Michael Carey, Ty Templeton, Ryan Stegman, Peach Momoko and Paul Davidson.

Marvel revives the Forgiven for a mini-event by Tim Seeley and Sid Kotian next year

The team, which first appeared during ‘Fear Itself,’ will team with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Avengers across three one-shots.

Marvel is reviving an obscure team of superhero vampires that first appeared during the 2011 event Fear Itself for a mini-event that will be published next year.

Spider-Man: Unforgiven will kick things off, by Tim Seeley and Sid Kotian. Mini-events, as we’ve taken to describing them, are a series of connected one-shots that typically feature a similar theme or hero. In the past they might have been miniseries, but Marvel has brilliantly come up with a way to ensure every issue has a #1 on it.

The three-part Unforgiven will kick off with the Spider-Man issue, to be followed by one-shots featuring the X-Men and the Avengers teaming up with The Forgiven. They first appeared in the Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula miniseries by Victor Gischler and Ryan Stegman.

“I love Marvel super heroes, no doubt, but I’ve got a special obsession with Marvel’s horror heroes,” Seeley told Marvel.com. “Unforgiven gives that creepy, sexy, weird underbelly a chance to shine as a horrific conspiracy unites a crew of vampires with Spider-Man, the X-Men and Captain America, and shows us the stark differences (and surprisingly similarities) of those who are gifted with the ability to fight evil, and those who have to carry evil’s curse. By the end of this epic event, we’ll have toured a lot of dark corners of the Marvel Universe, and reminded readers that monsters are at its shrunken black heart!”

Marvel celebrates 60 years of the Wasp with a new miniseries

Two Wasps team up in a new story by Al Ewing and Kasia Nie.

Following up on his work on the Ant-Man miniseries, writer Al Ewing will turn his attention to Hank Pym’s partner and former wife, Janet Van Dyne, for a new Wasp miniseries that kicks off in January.

Ewing will be joined by artist Kasia Nie, while Tom Reilly, who worked with Ewing on the Ant-Man series, will provide covers. The miniseries will feature both Wasps — Janet Van Dyne and her adopted daughter, Nadia Van Dyne.

“The Ant-Man series was a whole lot of fun and gave me a new appreciation for Janet Van Dyne and her world – and when I went digging into her past, there was a whole story there just waiting to be unearthed,” Ewing told Marvel.com. “If you weren’t a fan of the Wondrous Wasp before – not to mention her adopted daughter Nadia Van Dyne – you will be when we’re done!”

Mary Jane Watson teams with the Black Cat for new ‘Dark Web’ miniseries

Jed MacKay and Vincenzo Carratù bring together the former rivals in December.

Two of Spider-Man’s ex’s will team up in a new miniseries this December, as a part of the bigger Dark Web crossover event Marvel announced at the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year.

The series will be written by Jed McKay, who wrote the most recent Black Cat series as well as the Black Cat/Mary Jane one-shot that tied into the “Beyond” storyline in Amazing Spider-Man. He will work with artist Vincenzo Carratù on the series, who has drawn several series for Dynamite in recent years.

“I’ve kind of lost track of how many lives Felicia has left at this point, but she keeps coming back- and this time she’s brought a friend,” MacKay told Marvel.com. “Getting back to Mary Jane and Black Cat after their one-shot last year has been a delight—and seeing how they’ve been catching up on all the drama that’s happened since then has been, well, catnip.”

Slugfest | ‘Radio Apocalypse’ goes on indefinite hiatus

Plus: A new Secret Stash title, Poison Ivy grows and Marvel Masterworks gets reprinted.

Vault Comics and writer Ram V have announced via press release that the comic series Radio Apocalypse will go on “an indefinite hiatus.” The series, which suffered delays before launch, only saw two issues published.

“We launched this book with much excitement and to celebration and acclaim,” Ram V said in the statement. “And for that I have readers, retailers and everyone who worked on this book to thank. Unfortunately, in the time since, Anand, Aditya and I have been through some rough times. I will allow everyone including myself some privacy but suffice to say health issues, bouts of COVID and some difficult family emergencies on my end have meant that we have been unable to work on this book with the care and attention it deserves.”

The series, which reunited Ram V with Anand RK, who he worked with on Grafity’s Wall, was about the last radio station on Earth.

A former Captain Marvel gets her first solo series in December

Eve L. Ewing and Michael Sta. Maria send Monica Rambeau on a cosmic adventure later this year.

Former Avengers, Ultimates and Nextwave member Monica Rambeau will get her first solo miniseries later this year. Marvel has announced that writer Eve L. Ewing and artist Michael Sta. Maria will tell a cosmic story featuring the former Captain Marvel starring in December.

“It’s such an honor to be taking on the story of a legacy character like Monica Rambeau,” Ewing said. “Monica’s character has a long history in the Marvel Universe, but she’s way overdue for getting her own story told. I’m picking the pen up from the legend himself, Dwayne McDuffie, who put out the last Monica Rambeau solo adventure almost three decades ago. It’s a privilege and I’m excited to tell the story in a way that both highlights her incredible cosmic abilities as well as her everyday, relatable struggles. I hope this will be a title that has something equal to offer to veteran readers and folks who may be brand new to comics.”
