Nominees announced for the 2022 Bram Stoker Awards

Comics by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Sarah Gailey, Pius Bak and more were nominated this year.

Following the reveal of the preliminary ballot earlier this year, the Horror Writers Association has announced the final nominees for the 2022 Bram Stoker Awards.

The annual awards recognize “superior achievement” in horror and dark fiction, with a category dedicated to graphic novels. This year BOOM! Studios received two nominees, while Image Comics, Moonstone and Independent Legion Publishing each garnered one nomination.

Preliminary ballot announced for this year’s Bram Stoker Awards

The annual awards recognize “superior achievement” in horror and dark fiction, including graphic novels.

The Horror Writers Association has announced the preliminary ballot for the 2022 Bram Stoker Awards. The annual awards for horror/dark fiction include a “Superior Achievement in a Graphic Novel” category.

The graphic novel category includes 10 selections that voting members can choose from to select the final ballot and eventual winner. The final ballot is expected to be announced in late February.

Four selections this year come from Image, while three were published by BOOM! Studios. Of particular note is that James Tynion IV appears on the ballot for four different works — The Closet, The Nice House on the Lake, House of Slaughter and Something is Killing the Children.

‘House of Slaughter’ spins out of ‘Something is Killing the Children’ in October

James Tynion IV, Tate Brombal, Werther Dell‘Edera and Chris Shehan will explore ‘the secret history of the Order that forged Erica Slaughter into the monster hunter she is today.’

The world introduced in James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s Something is Killing the Children will grow in October with House of Slaughter, a new series that will reveal more of the back story behind the order that trained monster hunter Erica Slaughter.

Tynion and Dell’Edera will be joined by co-writer Tate Brombal, artist Chris Shehan, colorist Miquel Muerto and letterer AndWorld Design.

“Ever since our first glimpse of the House of Slaughter in Something is Killing the Children #5, I knew that there was an entire world of monsters and monster hunters outside of Erica Slaughter’s story. And once the book grew into the juggernaut of a series it’s become, thanks to all of our incredible fans, I knew I wanted to start telling those stories,” Tynion said. “I’m so honored to have the incredible Tate Brombal and the phenomenal Chris Shehan joining us to tell this exciting new story introducing everyone to the hunters Erica grew up alongside, and the other Houses within the Order of St. George, while Werther and I start plotting out Erica’s next adventure!”

Nominees announced for the 2020 Dragon Awards

The awards have been presented annually since 2016.

The nominees have been announced for the 2020 Dragon Awards, which have been presented during DragonCon since 2016.

The awards include multiple categories for books, media tie-ins like movies and video games, and two categories for comics — “Best Comic Book” and “Best Graphic Novel” (although the “Best Graphic Novel” nominees are mostly trade paperback collections of comic book serials).
