That time Doctor Octopus was a Japanese schoolgirl is coming to America

Marvel and Viz announce three new manga projects that will arrive in stores later this year.

One of the most famous (and maybe infamous, depending on who you talk to) Spider-Man stories saw his arch enemy Doctor Octopus cleverly switch minds with Peter Parker and take over his life. But what if, instead of trying to prove he was the “Superior” Spider-Man, he actually ended up in the body of a middle schooler in Japan?

That’s kind of the premise of Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, Vol. 1, announced last week by Marvel and Viz Media. Created by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes fame, it will join a remastered version of the 1990s X-Men Manga on store shelves this fall.

Here are more details on both, along with a Deadpool: Samurai coloring book:

DC has released a preview of the upcoming Titans: Beast World miniseries, which was announced this past summer. The crossover event will feature a main series by Tom Taylor, Ivan Reis and Danny Miki, with various tie-ins throughout.

The story centers on The Necrostar, a giant space starfish that rivals Starro and who the Titans, along with the rest of the DC Universe, team up to fight. Along the way, they somehow end up being turned into animal versions of themselves. Beast Boy, in fact, will show that it takes a giant starfish to stop a giant starfish, as he transforms into a version of Starro himself.

Here’s a preview, along with a look at the main cover, which is by Ivan Reis, Danny Miki and Brad Anderson:

Comics Lowdown: Comic Con case heads to court showdown

Plus: classic Archie returns, Tom King, Black Panther and more.

Battle of the Cons: The court case between Comic-Con International (which runs the San Diego comic con) and Salt Lake Comic Con over CCI’s claim that it owns the term “comic con” moves into a crucial stage this week with two days of depositions today and tomorrow, followed by a settlement hearing before a judge on Thursday. That hearing will determine whether it all ends there or the case will go to trial in October. CCI owns the trademark to “comic-con” with a hyphen but the case is murkier for the unhyphenated version; Salt Lake Comic Con was allowed to trademark its name last year.
