Comixology Originals announces ‘Retroverse’ by Bunn + Bivens

The new series will arrive on the platform next week.

Master of horror comics Cullen Bunn will team with artist John Bivens for Retroverse, a new science fiction title about a a teenage girl who finds herself in an alternate reality where she died.

“After a wild, drunken party, 19-year-old Kacy Martin wakes up in an alternate universe—one where she has been dead for 13 years,” said Bunn. “She must navigate the heartbreaking waters of a world that seems to have turned out much better without her in it. And she must do so while wielding newly discovered, terrifying abilities against alien horrors.”

‘Funny Things’ tells the story of Charles Schulz — in comic strip form

Top Shelf will publish the graphic novel by Luca Debus and Francesco Matteuzzi next year.

Italian creators Luca Debus and Francesco Matteuzzi will bring their unique style to tell the story of a very American legend — Peanuts creator Charles Schulz. Top Shelf will release Funny Things: A Comic Strip Biography of Charles M. Schulz next year.

“While Schulz was working on his last strip, looking back on five decades of Peanuts characters and situations, he laughed and said: ‘I really drew some funny things,’” Matteuzzi said. “That phrase, Funny Things, stuck with me since I first read it: it’s both accurate and a huge understatement of what he accomplished. So simple, and yet so powerful, just like the strips he left us which we will cherish forever.”

Archie Comics artist Tim Kennedy, who collaborated artistically with his twin brother Pat, has passed away. No cause of death has been reported.

The Kennedy brothers began working for Archie in the late 1980s, after graduating from the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Design. They’ve been regular contributors ever since, drawing classic Archie stories as well as projects like the popular Life With Archie, which showed two alternate takes on Archie marrying Betty and Veronica.

“For decades, the Fabulous K Bros have dazzled fans around the world, bringing some of the funniest and most difficult stories from idea to the page,” said Archie Comics President and Editor-in-Chief Mike Pellerito. “No matter the challenge of illustrating a difficult scene with a giant Ferris wheel, intricate architecture, spaceships, car chases or any other wild story idea, they handled it seemingly with ease. Over the past decade or so I think their work has become some of the best and most versatile at Archie.”

‘Lazarus Planet’ grows in scope with ‘Revenge of the Gods’ miniseries

G. Willow Wilson and Cian Tormey featuring the Shazam! family, Wonder Woman and some old frenemies from Olympus.

DC’s Lazarus Planet crossover will expand in both time and scope next year, as the publisher announced a follow-up miniseries, Lazarus Planet: Revenge of the Gods by G. Willow Wilson and Cian Tormey.

Revenge of the Gods will feature the Shazam! family and Wonder Woman, as they take a stand against the old gods who have decided to “take down the heroes they once called champions.” Or at least some of them take a stand; at least one of them actually goes over to the other side. The story will run through a four-issue bi-weekly miniseries, as well as issues of Wonder Woman, in March and April.

Dark Horse announces a ‘Masters of the Universe’ anthology

Tim Seeley, Eddie Nuñez, Sergio Aragonés, Kelley Jones and more will tell stories featuring He-Man from across the multiverse.

Writer Tim Seeley and a host of great artists will team up for Masters of the Universe: Masterverse, an anthology miniseries coming from Dark Horse next year.

As The Sorceress tries to show Zodac the value of He-Man, she takes him on a tour of the multiverse, where they see various versions and stories of the hero, drawn by different artists.

The first issue will include artwork by Eddie Nuñez, Sergio Aragonés, Kelley Jones, Rico Renzi and Brennan Wagner, while subsequent issues will feature E.J. Su, Victor Santos, David Rubín, Claudia Balboni, Daniel Lopez and Fico Ossio.
