For today only, get DSTLRY’s ‘The Devil’s Cut’ on digital for $1

The new comic company launches their first limited digital comic.

DSTLRY, the comics company founded by former Comixology guys David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, has released their first digital comic — an online version of The Devil’s Cut, the anthology title that kicked off their line this past summer. And if you buy it today, it’s only $1, so head on over to their website before the price goes up at midnight.

Update: The price has now increased to $6.66.

You might recall from their initial announcement/unveiling of their company that DSTLRY plans to have “limited digital releases,” selling them directly through their website rather than through a service like Comixology. They plan to somehow make the digital releases “collectible and resellable” at the same time, through some sort of online marketplace. If this all sounds very NFT-ish, well, they say it’s not, but that marketplace apparently isn’t ready quite yet, as noted in their launch message on their site:

Remember, these pioneering single-issue releases won’t be available again digitally until our Marketplace launches in early 2024—and then only if owners decide to sell! Seize this unique opportunity to be part of DSTLRY’s evolving story from the outset. Our digital collections will be available when they launch with no immediate end-of-sale date.

Mark Millar makes his Dark Horse

The creator will move his Millarworld line to the publisher next year.

Mark Millar will join Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Kindt, Stan Sakai and others as the latest creator to take their creator-owned work to Dark Horse Comics.

According to Forbes, the deal will see Millar and Dark Horse release five new titles in 2024, all under the “Millarworld” banner. Dark Horse will also collect previous Millarworld titles like The Magic Order and Night Club. Previously Millar’s creator-owned work was being published by Image Comics.

“Can I just say that I’ve been a Dark Horse fan since the beginning, and this has been a decades-long love affair finally consummated?” Millar said. “I’ve loved what Mike and the team have been doing for years and so many of my friends are over there, having a great time. I really just wanted to join the party and not only haul my massive, shelf-groaning library with me, but also commit to several years of really exciting stuff in the wake of our Big Game crossover event.”

Molly Ostertag reveals the cover to ‘The Deep Dark,’ coming next year from First Second

The print version of her Substack work will arrive in June.

Over the course of about two years, Molly Knox Ostertag serialized a comic called Darkest Night on her Substack. Now the award-winning creator of The Girl from the Sea and Witch Boy has revealed the cover to the print version of the story, which will be titled The Deep Dark.

First Second will publish the graphic novel next June, as Ostertag undergoes the process of converting the original art, which was made for scrolling on a device, to print pages.

“I’ve spent the past few months turning those long scrolling updates into graphic novel spreads and cursing my past self for being so chaotic about how I layer my photoshop files,” she said in her latest newsletter. “I also hand lettered everything, which looks so good that I’m furious because now I HAVE to hand letter all future projects.”

Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen go double-sized in March

Marvel announces plans for ‘Giant-Size Spider-Gwen,’ Miles Morales #300 in Los Angeles.

During a panel at this weekend’s L.A. Comic Con, Marvel announced two extra-sized doses of the Spider-gang that will arrive in stores next March.

Spider-Gwen will get the Giant-Size spotlight in Giant-Size Spider-Gwen by Melissa Flores and Alba Glez, while Miles Morales will celebrate 300 issues in the oversized Miles Morales: Spider-Man #18 by Cody Ziglar and a host of artists, including Sara Pichelli and Federico Vicentini.

“To be completely honest, it’s very surreal to be able to write Miles’ 300th issue,” Ziglar said. “This is a character I’ve been following and rooting for for almost 12 years now. There’s so much crammed into this issue and I’m forever grateful that I have been trusted to continue to carry the torch for Miles after [Brian Michael] Bendis and [Saladin] Ahmed.”

Jackpot and Black Cat team up again in a new miniseries next March

Peter Parker’s ex-girlfriends return in a tale of blackmail and revenge.

Two of Peter parker’s ex-girlfriends have proven to be a formidable team, and next March they’ll come together again to battle a supervillain that’s blackmailing both of them.

Jackpot and Black Cat brings together Felicia Hardy and the now-super-powered Mary Jane Watson in a new story by Celeste Bronfman and Emilio Laiso. The lucky ladies have appeared together before in the Black Cat & Mary Jane: Beyond one-shot, as well as the recent Dark Web miniseries that saw them pull off a heist in Limbo.

“MJ’s been a hero since day one, and I’m so excited to continue her journey as Jackpot—this time with Felicia Hardy by her side!” Bronfman said. “Opposites attract, and I’ve always loved the push and pull of their friendship. Expect them to butt heads through heists, betrayals, and the unexpected!”

Ivan Reis brings ‘Hyde Street’ to Ghost Machine

Reis will re-team with Geoff Johns on the creator-owned series.

Artist Ivan Reis will team with Geoff Johns once again on Hyde Street, an upcoming creator-owned series that will fall under the recently announced Ghost Machine imprint.

Reis joins Johns, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Brad Meltzer and more at Ghost Machine, a new company that aims to be a “first-of-its-kind creator-owned and operated media company.” I’m not sure how that differs from Image Comics, which has been creator-owned and operated for 30 years and will actually publish Ghost Machine’s titles, but there you go.

Marvel will unleash a new Ghost Rider in ‘Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance’

Benjamin Percy and Danny Kim team up to reveal a new chapter for the Spirit of Vengeance.

Johnny Blaze’s long ride as Ghost Rider will reach its end (again) as a new Ghost Rider debuts next year in Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance.

Yes, his 50-year ride comes to an end … minus all the years when he wasn’t Ghost Rider, which was from 1983, when the original series ended and Blaze became demon-free, until the early 2000s, when he was demon-cursed again. So maybe more like 30 years, with a nice gap in between runs when he was living the good life with his wife Roxanne and their kids?

Anyway, this time someone new is going to become Ghost Rider. No, not Danny Ketch, or Robbie Reyes … or that guy who rides the mastodon, or Ghost Rider 2099, or Cosmic Ghost Rider, or the one who was also sorcerer supreme … ah, hell, just take a look at Greg Capullo’s variant cover:

Iman Vellani + Sabir Pirzada will continue Ms. Marvel’s story in March

Artist Scott Godlewski joins the team for ‘Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace,’ which follows the recently concluded ‘Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant.’

Although the most recent Ms. Marvel miniseries ended this week, fans of the character will be happy to learn that actress Iman Vellani and writer Sabir Pirzada will continue to tell stories featuring Kamal Khan next year.

Marvel has announced Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace, which follows The New Mutant and features Scott Godlewski on art. Vellani, of course, plays Ms. Marvel in The Marvels and on the Disney+ show, and has proven she’s got talent on the other side of the screen as well.

“It’s been an absolute joy and privilege to get to co-write Ms. Marvel with Iman Vellani, who has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is THE voice of Ms. Marvel on the page just as much as she is on the screen,” Pirzada said. “We are excited to report that Kamala’s mutant journey will continue on in Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace. It will be Kamala’s most dangerous ride yet.”
