‘G.I. Joe: Sierra Muerte’ debuts next spring.
Copra creator Michel Fiffe has heard the call — “Yo Joe!” — and will tackle the G.I. Joe team in a new miniseries, G.I. Joe: Sierra Muerte.
“Love and loss, combat and cunning, cheap laughs and high stakes – this is everything I want in a G.I. Joe comic,” Fiffe told Nerdist. Fiffe’s story will feature Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Lady Jaye, Scarlett, Rock ‘n Roll, Gung-Ho, Stalker and Flint, who go rogue on a rescue mission.

New miniseries by Vita Ayala and Harvey Tolibao spotlights a pyromancer named Chandra.
The ever-popular card game Magic: The Gathering will return to comics this fall just in time for its 25th anniversary. IDW Publishing, who has released other Magic series in the past, will publish Magic: The Gathering: Chandra in November.
Writer Vita Ayala (Supergirl, The Wilds) and artist Harvey Tolibao (X-Men, Green Arrow) will introduce a new character to the Magic mythos, a pyromancer named Chandra, who looks like she’s ready to burn a hole in your heart.

The team behind ‘Stray Bullets’ moves into the Black Crown neighborhood in October.
Stray Bullets creators David and Maria Lapham are joining IDW’s Black Crown label this fall with a new book called Lodger. The story revolves around a drifter/serial killer and a teenager whose mom was killed by the man.
“David and I rarely have time to work on stories that don’t fit into Stray Bullets continuity, but Shelly Bond and Ricky Toledo had other ideas. Lodger is a twisted love story – dark and grimy — like all the best crime noir. We can’t wait for readers to see it,” Maria said.

Fear leads to the dark side as a host of horror descends on the Star Wars universe.
IDW is heading to the even darker side with a new miniseries that combines Star Wars with “campfire ghost stories” — Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader’s Castle.
The five-part series will run for five weeks in October (of course!) and will feature stories by Cavan Scott, Derek Charm, Kelley Jones, Chris Fenoglio, Corin Howell, Robert Hack and Charles Paul Wilson III, and covers by Francesco Francavilla (again, I say, of course!)

The 1980s toy line gets a comic book reboot thanks to IDW Publishing and the man behind ‘Transformers vs. G.I. Joe.’
It’s always a good day when you find out what Tom Scioli is up to next. IDW Publishing announced in San Diego that the creator of Transformers vs. G.I. Joe is working on a new comic starring the Go-Bots.
“This is a dream project – I’m writing, drawing, coloring, and hand-lettering this book. It’s a labor of love,” Scioli said in the press release. “When these characters were conceived of in the ’80s, the idea of robots with human personalities was science fiction. Now, it’s history. The world of living machines is here – we’re living it. The time is right for Go-Bots!”
Sam and Jade solve mysteries once again in a new volume from Kim Dwinell.
Top Shelf has announced a sequel to one of last year’s “perfect summer reads,” as our own Brigid Alverson called it. Surfside Girls (Book Two): The Mystery at the Old Rancho, finds best friends Sam and Jade tackling a two-hundred-year-old mystery to help one of the local ghosts.
“I’ve had so much fun this last year watching readers of all ages discover Sam and Jade’s world,” says author Kim Dwinell. “I packed Surfside Girls with Southern California sunshine, and I hope everyone enjoys spending time with it as much as I do. I’m absolutely stoked to show you what the girls get up to in Book Two!”

Marvel and IDW team up to ‘develop middle-grade comic books designed for younger readers.’
I guess this shouldn’t come as a shock, given how Disney has licensed IDW to create Big Hero 6 and Star Wars comics aimed at younger readers, but still, that headline …
IDW and Marvel announced today that they “will develop middle-grade comic books designed for younger readers. Featuring some of Marvel’s most popular characters, the monthly issues and trade paperback collections, published by IDW, will be available for sale at local comic book shops and book retailers across the country, expanding opportunities for the next generation of Super Heroes to experience the Marvel Universe.”
The creative team behind ‘The Life And Times Of Savior 28’ returns with a new five-issue series this September.
A long-gestating project by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Cavallaro will see the light of day in September, when IDW Publishing will release Impossible, Incorporated, a five-issue comic book miniseries about a 17-year-old and her train that can travel to “other worlds, new dimensions, parallel universes and through time itself.”
“I’ve been bouncing around the idea for Impossible, Inc. with Mike Cavallaro for five or six years now. We wanted to create something that had the innocence of Silver Age comics; the expansive imagination of Jack Kirby; a cosmic perspective on life; and – most of all – a big, beating heart at its core. A story that could explore the quantum corners of both the universe and the human soul. Now that dream is a reality and we’ve uncorked a tale that we hope meets our goals and delights our audience,” DeMatteis said in the press release. “I’ve been blown away by Mike’s art, which has a power and purity of vision that encompasses both infinity and intimacy. IDW and DC Comics team up to publish a five-issue miniseries starring the Dark Knight and Arkham’s newest patient: The Maxx.
Sam Kieth’s The Maxx hasn’t been seen in about a decade, but that changes in September when IDW Publishing and DC Comics come together to present Batman/The Maxx: Arkham Dreams. The first issue of the five-issue miniseries, written and drawn by Kieth, will feature covers by Kieth and DC CCO/Publisher Jim Lee.

The four-issue ‘Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive’ miniseries starts in September.
After a false start late last year involving a licensing snafu that kept Archie from publishing a Dick Tracy comic, the fedora-wearing detective is back in a new series from IDW Publishing.
Michael Allred, Lee Allred, Rich Tommaso and Laura Allred will team up for Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive, a four-issue miniseries launching in September. Lee and Michael will co-write the series, while Tommaso will draw it.

Xavier Fauthoux to write and draw a graphic novel about the Godfather of Soul.
IDW Publishing has announced plans for a graphic novel based on the life of the Godfather of Soul. Written and illustrated by Xavier Fauthoux, James Brown: Black and Proud will be available in stores in October.
“Tracing the life of this cultural juggernaut, Black and Proud, paints a rich portrait of a true larger-than-life American personality,” said Justin Eisinger, Editorial Director of Graphic Novels and Collections at IDW, in a press release. “Even readers more than casually familiar with Mr. Brown’s career and achievements will find plenty of new revelations and details that add a deep complexity to a celebrated cultural icon. And that’s something so powerful about the contemporary non-fiction movement in graphic storytelling.”

Hannah Blumenreich and Nicoletta Baldari bring the Disney characters back to comics.
IDW Publishing has announced the creative team and release date for Big Hero 6, the comic based a TV show based on a movie based on a Marvel comic that they announced at New York Comic-Con last year.
Hannah Blumenreich, creator of some pretty awesome “Spidey” fan comics as well as some that were published by Marvel, will write Big Hero 6. Nicoletta Baldari, who has worked for IDW on Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, will join her on art. (Baldari is also working on another Disney property, The Incredibles, over at Dark Horse). The first issue will feature covers by Gurihiru (Gwenpool) and Sophie Campbell (Jem and the Holograms, TMNT, Wet Moon).
