Fans who were happy to see the team reunite again in the pages of this week’s Giant-Size X-Statix #1 will be positively, um, ecstatic to see the final page.

Peter Milligan and Mike Allred‘s satirical run on X-Statix, which actually started as a run on X-Force until the title change, produced some of the most creative and fun comics (albeit with a very high body count) from Marvel in the early 2000s. Doop, Anarchist, Mister Sensitive, Vivisector, U-Go Girl and the rest were mutant media sensations who put themselves on the line for the greater good — and even greater fame. They may not be the super team you need, but they are the super team you deserve — or however the cliche goes.
This week’s special sees the return of the team, as the members who are still living team up with new versions of those who died — and we also find out that one original member we thought was dead really isn’t. Instead, they’ve gone on to form a new team, The X-Cellent, who — surprise! — will receive their own series next year:
It was fun jumping onto the X-Statix crazy train for one more issue, and it’s even better news to hear the ride isn’t over.
