Marvel will raise the dead once more in October, as they revive Marvel Zombies for a new series.
Marvel Zombies: Respawned will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, with art by Leonard Kirk and covers by Inhyuk Lee. Based on the description, this sounds like a reboot rather than a continuation of previous Marvel Zombie stories.
Here’s how Marvel describes the series: When Galactus’ corpse appears at the edge of Earth’s solar system, the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four investigate. Too late, they discover that Galactus’ body is now the vessel of an interstellar terror, which one-by-one transforms Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into the universe’s most terrifying predators! As our heroes try to escape the super-powered, cannibalistic aberrations that were once their friends and family, will any survive? And even if they do, can they hope to protect Earth from the infestation that has already claimed half of the known universe?
Taking its name from a term used by other comics fans to make fun of Marvel’s devout following, Marvel Zombies debuted back in 2005 from Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips. It spawned several sequels, spinoffs and follow-ups, but has been festering underground since 2015 and the Secret Wars miniseries that featured the zombies going to war with Ultron.
Look for the new series to kick off in October.
