Welcome to Can’t Wait for Comics, your guide to what comics are arriving in comic book stores, bookstores and on digital this week.
I’ve pulled out some of the highlights below, but for the complete list of everything you might find at your local comic shop and on digital this week, you’ll want to check out one or more of the following:
- Penguin Random House (Marvel + graphic novels + manga)
- Lunar Distribution (DC + Scout + more)
- Diamond’s PreviewsWorld (IDW + Image + Dark Horse + many more)
- ComicList (Pretty much all of the above)
- comiXology/Kindle new releases (digital comics)
As a reminder, things can change and what you find on the above lists may differ from what’s actually arriving in your local shop. So always check with your comics retailer for the final word on availability.
Devil’s Reign: Omega (Marvel, $4.99): Marvel’s big Daredevil-centric crossover wrapped up weeks ago, but this one-shot sets the stage for what comes next for not only the two Daredevils (Matt Murdock and Elektra), but also the rest of the heroes in New York.
Batman: Fortress #1 (DC, $3.99): Gary Whitta and Darick Robertson present a story featuring Batman rallying the Justice League, minus Superman, against the threat of an alien invasion — while also dealing with a crime wave in Gotham. Batman just can’t catch a break.
Pearl #1 (Dark Horse, $3.99): Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos return for a third volume of Pearl, their creator-owned series about a tattoo artist on a “Yakuza assassin romantic odyssey.” This marks Pearl’s Dark Horse debut, which lands the same week as a new collection of the Bendis/Alex Maleev title Scarlet.
Legion of X #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Si Spurrier and Jan Bazaldua continue the storyline started in Way of X, as Nightcrawler, Pixie, Legion and more “do anything to protect mutants’ right to pursue happiness and hope.”
Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #2 (Image, $5.99): Image’s anniversary anthology continues with new stories by Geoff Johns, Andrea Mutti, Brendan Fletcher, Eric Henderson, Wes Craig and more, plus some appearances by old favorites, like a new Ice Cream Man story.
Fox and Hare #1 (Vault, $4.99): Jon Tsuei and Stacey Lee tackle a new cyberpunk story about two mercs protecting a coder with top secret data from a mega corporation called Synastry Designs.
DC vs. Vampires: Hunters (DC, $3.99): This spinoff from DC vs. Vampires features Damian Wayne going full vampire hunter on the bloodsucking undead who have been plaguing the DC heroes. It’s by Matthew Rosenberg and Neil Googe.
Hellboy & B.P.R.D.: Night of the Cyclops (Dark Horse, $3.99): The latest Hellboy one-shot features Big Red in Greece, as Mike Mignola and Olivier Vatine pit him against the wrath of jealous god. While in a toga.
Spectro (AfterShock, $7.99): Juan Doe writes and draws this one-person anthology one-shot, featuring stories about space, sentient technology, twisted karma and phantasmagoric terror.
Mickey Mouse: Trapped in the Shadow Dimension (Fantagraphics, $29.99): Andrea “Casty” Castellan sends Mickey Mouse off on an epic adventure in a “shadow dimension” featuring Dr. Einmug, Atomo Bleep-Bleep and PegLeg Pete. Other stories feature Scrooge McDuck vs. the Beagle Boys, as well as Mickey and Minnie caught up in a robot war.
