Three Count | Secret Steward, Heart Acres, Who Killed Sarah Shaw?

Here are three comics to experience, to get addicted to and to binge today.

Three Count spotlights, as the title suggests, three things from comics today. It’ll be three things with links, no more, no less. I’ve got more secrets than you’ll ever know.

1. To Experience: Secret Steward by Sanshirō Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi

If you’re planning to hit the Viz Manga app later this week when the global crossover manga Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man arrives, let me point you to another digital manga you may want to check out while you are there — Secret Steward by Sanshirō Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi.

Yeah, I know — you’re probably looking at the images I’m sharing here and thinking, “I’m not sure this is really for me.” But trust me — this first chapter is worth a read.

Kasama and Uesugi were the team behind Deadpool: Samurai, and this romantic comedy about a young trainee butler and his strong-willed and independent mistress is proof of their ability to be both subversive and surprising.

2. To Get Addicted To: Heart Acres by Paul Tobin, Colleen Coover and EA Dench

I wasn’t surprised by how awesome Paul Tobin, Colleen Coover and EA Dench’s new webcomic, Heart Acres, is, but maybe I am surprised by how much I’m wishing for the next chapter to drop.

It’s about a down-on-his-luck guy whose grandmother recruits him to repair their dilapidated family mansion, and he and his cat move there to find out it is haunted by five beautiful ghosts. There’s all sorts of tensions between him and the ghosts, (the one who likes to murder people is my favorite) plus he meets a cute handywoman and an evil land developer, and it’s just a whole bunch of fun — which you’d expect from the Eisner winning co-creators of Bandette. Go check it out on Webtoon.

3. To Binge: Who Killed Sarah Shaw? by Frankee White and Adam Markiewicz

I’ve also been digging Who Killed Sarah Shaw?, which, as you might have guessed from the title, is a murder mystery. You can read it either on this BlueSky thread by writer Frankee White or on artist Adam Markiewicz’s Patreon. It’s about two true-crime reporters investigating a small-town murder who stumble into all sorts of small-town drama. It’s well paced and tense, with a lot of interesting twists along the way.

If you want to read it on BlueSky (for free), I’d act now, because White says he only plans to leave it up for a few more days. So go binge it!
