Black Canary will take center stage — or is it center ring? — in a miniseries by Wonder Woman writer Tom King and Seven Soldiers: Zatanna artist Ryan Sook.
The six-issue Black Canary: Best of the Best will feature Dinah Lance going up against Lady Shiva to determine the best hand-to-hand fighter in the DC universe.
“I’ve been wanting to tell this story for a few years, and I’m really excited for fans to see what Ryan and I have planned for Dinah,” said King. “He’s got the perfect art style for this series, and fans will feel every punch and kick thrown from the first issue to the finale.”
Here’s how DC describes the series:
Black Canary faces her toughest opponent yet, Lady Shiva, in a battle to determine who is the single greatest hand-to-hand fighter in the DC Universe. To make it to the final round, Black Canary will need all her fighting skill and ability, plus additional training from some of DC’s most accomplished fighters, including Batman, Wildcat, and even her mother, the original Black Canary!
The first issue will feature variant covers by David Nakayama, Chrissie Zullo, and Dan Hipp, as well as an impressive wraparound cover by Otto Schmidt with different versions of Black Canary from across the DC Universe:
While she’s served as a leader, team member and supporting cast member in comics like Birds of Prey, Justice League and Green Arrow over the years, Black Canary has only helmed her own solo series on a few occasions, with the first coming in 1991 and the latest, an ongoing that only lasted 12 issues, coming in 2015.
Black Canary: Best of the Best #1 comes out Nov. 27.
