Ghost Machine expands in November with ‘The Rocketfellers’ + ‘Hornsby & Halo’

Peter J. Tomasi writes two new titles for the fledgling imprint at Image Comics.

Ghost Machine, the publishing group set up by Geoff Johns and several other creators, has been on a roll over the last few months. They’ve introduced multiple titles across several different genres in different “universes” where their stories are set. In November, they’ll launch two new series, both written by Peter J. Tomasi and set in the “Family Odysseys” universe.

First up is The Rocketfellers, which will debut on Nov. 20. It’s about a family from the future who discover the fate of humanity is in their hands, which makes them targets — so they move to the past as part of the “Time Zone Protection Program.”

Tomasi has teamed up with artist Francis Manapul for this one.

“We’re excited for you to meet this ensemble cast of characters from the future! The Rocketfellers’ time-travelling adventure reflects the timeless struggle and triumph every family encounters,” said Manapul. “Telling this type of story comes at a poignant intersection in my career and personal experience, and I couldn’t have found a more perfect collaborator in Pete. The team at Ghost Machine is dedicated to giving the readers a fun and thrilling experience, and, most importantly, characters you’ll look forward to growing with. Come and join the Rocketfellers’ family this November!”

The first issue will feature covers by Manapul, as well as Ivan Reis, Brad Anderson and Danny Miki; Mark Chiarello and Mike Del Mundo.

“I love exploring and diving deep into family dynamics with this series because that’s something every reader can relate and empathize with and bringing The Rocketfellers to life with Francis Manapul has been fun, heart-wrenching, action-packed, dramatic and an all-out blast as we let these wonderful characters tumble, stumble and run headfirst into adventures and discoveries of epic and every day proportions,” Tomasi said. “But to simply boil it down, The Rocketfellers is a rollercoaster of emotion and restless dreams as a family runs from their present to save their future. All of us here at Ghost Machine have a singular purpose and that is to make great comic books with engaging characters and enthralling stories.”

Tomasi is also writing Hornsby & Halo, a new title featuring artwork by Peter Snejbjerg. This looks like another fun one; it’s about two infants, a demon and an angel, who are switched at birth in an effort to avert war between Heaven and Hell.

“Is it possible for someone to have too much fun? Well, I may just be that person because working with the amazing Peter Snejbjerg on our new series Hornsby & Halo here at Ghost Machine is a blast of insane proportions,” said Tomasi. “Along with family dynamics, we’re also dealing with another one of my favorite themes which is Nature versus Nuture as we follow Zachary and Rose, two teenagers living in Warwick, New York, as they learn they’re from Heaven and Hell and have been chosen to keep the peace in their respective celestial realms but still have to get to class on time! Let’s just say nothing goes the way you’d expect as family and friendships are pushed to the limits of insanity, hilarity and heartfelt clashes.”

Here’s the full description from Image:

Keeping the cosmic peace isn’t easy. But in Hornsby & Halo, the opposing leaders of Heaven and Hell broker a deal that trades Zachary Halo, an angel child, to a demon family, and Rose Hornsby, a demon child, to an angel family, and hope this truce will halt the winds of war. It’s Nature versus Nurture as the turbulence of adolescence comes crashing down on two teenagers who have no idea just who and what they truly are…yet.

“It is an insane pleasure to wake up every morning and discover that, no, I didn’t dream it: I am actually working with my favorite comic book writer, Peter Tomasi, illustrating the adventures of Rose Hornsby and Zachary Halo, two on the surface quite normal teenagers who wake up one day to find that they have the balance of the war between Heaven and Hell resting on their narrow adolescent shoulders,” Snejbjerg said. “It’s a fun, energetic and warm hearted story about friendship, family and having to reconcile your school life with being a supernatural entity at the centre of cosmic conspiracies!”

The first issue will feature a main cover by Snejbjerg and John Kalisz, with variants by Ivan Reis and Danny Miki, Dave Johnson, and Brad Walker and Brad Anderson. It arrives in stores Nov. 27.
