Dan Panosian + Alessio Avallone return to Neverland for ‘The Last Boy’

The new series launches at BOOM! next year.

Writer Dan Panosian and artist Alessio Avallone will revisit the story of Peter Pan and Wendy in The Last Boy, a new series from BOOM! Studios that starts in March.

Set years after their first encounter, the boy who never grew up will encounter a Wendy dealing with the challenges of adulthood.

“Having grown up fascinated with the Peter Pan films and books, I desperately wanted to tell a Peter Pan and Wendy story that takes place years after they encountered one another,” Panosian said. “I wondered what would happen if everyone around Peter grew up but he still hadn’t, even if his very life and those he loved depended on it!”

BOOM! Studios describes the series as such:

Years after Peter Pan’s adventures with Wendy Darling, the boy who wouldn’t grow up is now the last one in Neverland still clinging to his adventurous youth. Meanwhile in London, Wendy also yearns for childhood and its freedom from responsibility as she rails against the transition to adulthood and her family’s expectations.

As their desires create a mirror of fantasy and reality, a disastrous encounter with the aging Captain Hook becomes the catalyst for Peter’s realization that Neverland is growing up without him.

But will the two of them find each other once again to carry on their age-old adventures…or is this truly the final threshold of their adolescence?

“I’ve loved Peter Pan’s story since childhood—maybe because, like all comic book artists, we’re eternal children? But as an adult artist, this project gave me a creative freedom I hadn’t felt in a while,” Avallone said. “The real challenge was capturing the contrast between the foggy London and the dreamy Neverland. I hope readers enjoy it!”

The first issue arrives March 19.
