See what new comics and graphic novels are arriving in stores this week.

Welcome to Can’t Wait for Wednesday, your guide to what comics are arriving in comic book stores, bookstores and on digital. It’s the week of Christmas, and I plan to slack off this week. More importantly, though, comics are not slacking off, despite the fact that Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year. So be sure to stop by and see your comics retailer on Thursday, and enjoy the last weekly comic releases of 2024.

I’ve pulled out some of the other highlights for this week below, but for the complete list of everything you might find at your local comic shop and on digital this week, you’ll want to check out one or more of the following:

Metamorpho the Element Man #1 (DC, $3.99): Al Ewing and Steve Lieber bring Metamorpho into the limelight as a part of DC’s bigger All In initiative. And the timing couldn’t be better, as the character just made an appearance in

Star Wars: Battle of Jakku — Last Stand #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Alex Segura, Jethro Morales and Leonard Kirk wrap up the story of the Battle of Jakku, the big battle between the newly forming Republic and the last remnants of the Empire that took place after Return of the Jedi. See Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian and more battle for the fate of the galaxy.

Dust to Dust #1 (Image Comics, $3.99): J. G. Jones and Phil Bram bring a new miniseries to Giant Generator about a Depression-era serial killer and the sheriff and photojournalist who team up to take them down.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Frank Tieri and Michael Sta. Maria follow up Ruins of Ravencroft: Sabretooth with this miniseries that’s also set in the past and Tieri describes as “Gangs of New York but with Sabretooth.”

Timeslide #1 (Marvel, $6.99): Marvel’s made a tradition of releasing a year-end one-shot in December that is usually one part complete story, one part preview of what to expect from the publisher in the next year. This year’s special is by by Steve Foxe and Ivan Fiorelli, and it features an X-Men from the future coming back in time (as they are prone to do) to warn Cable and Bishop about a new villain who is trying to stop the X-Gene from ever evolving in the first place.

Vampirella Helliday 2024 Special (Dynamite, $4.99): Vampirella gets the holiday treatment in this one-shot by Frank Tieri and Mariano Benitiz Chapo that finds our heroine sentenced to the Naughty List — so she takes her grievances to the North Pole.

Kidpool & Spider-Boy #1 (Marvel, $6.99): Kidpool — that’s the kid variant of Deadpool — and Spider-Boy — that’s the “lost” sidekick of Spider-Man who recently returned to continuity — team up in this special where Spider-Boy attempts to keep Kidpool from bringing back the Comics Code. It’s by Christopher Yost, Nathan Stockman and more.

Hellhunters #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s run on Incredible Hulk has introduced all sorts of new monstrous characters into the Marvel universe, with one of them being a World War II era Ghost Rider — Sergeant Sal Romero, who fought the Nazis alongside several other Marvel characters you might recognize. Now Sergeant Ghost Rider is getting an origin story, courtesy of Johnson and artist Adam Gorham. 

Yojimbot (Dark Horse, $19.99): French writer and artist Sylvain Repos’ post-apocalyptic dystopian story comes to America. It features a world where robots reign supreme, and one samurai-reenacting robot—a Yojimbot—makes the choice to help a human boy in danger.

Tectiv (Mad Cave, $14.99): Richard Ashley Hamilton and Marco Matrone team up for this post-apocalyptic detective tale about a girl who decides to became a “tectiv” just like the ones she has read about in ancient books after her best friend goes missing in their small community.
