Paul Cornell and Lee Harris have teamed up to form Cosmic Lighthouse, a new publishing company that’s “devoted to publishing original graphic novels by the greatest modern science fiction and fantasy writers, paired with the world’s best artists.”
And ahead of next week’s San Diego Comic Con, they’ve announced their first project, a digital graphic novel that’ll be published through Comixology Originals. Salvation’s Child is the debut graphic novel by science-fiction and fantasy writer Adrian Tchaikovsky and serves as a prologue to his bestselling book series, The Final Architecture, which includes the titles Shards of Earth, Eyes of the Void, and Lords of Uncreation.
“We at Cosmic Lighthouse are excited to work with the very best names in the field of science fiction and fantasy paired with great comic artists to bring new and longtime readers of the genre more of what they love in a new medium,“ Cornell said. “Launching our first title digitally with Comixology Originals brings us even closer to the future.”
Tchaikovsky is joined by artist Mike Collins, who worked on Marvel’s UK line back in the 1980s and then migrated to the American comic scene in the 1990s to draw Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Flash, Teen Titans and Uncanny X-Men — including the first appearance of Gambit.
They’ll be joined by colorist Pippa Bowland, letterer Simon Bowland and cover artist Steve Stone.
The story builds on Tchaikovsky’s novels, a space opera about humanity on the brink of extinction after Earth is destroyed by moon-sized creatures called The Architects, and the remaining humans struggle to survive on colony worlds. The graphic novel will focus on a child who can sense the Architects’ approach.
“The chance to revisit this universe in a new medium is an incredible opportunity,” Tchaikovsky said. “I’m grateful that Paul, Comixology, and Cosmic Lighthouse have given me this opportunity to return to the Architects and look at parts of the setting the original books didn’t get a chance to linger on. Working with the artistic team has been an exciting experience, and I think together we’ve created something really special.”
