Skybound has announced Corpse Knight, a horror/fantasy miniseries from Michael Chaves of The Conjuring franchise fame, along with artist Matthew Roberts and colorist Rico Renzi. The comic combines dark fantasy, brutal horror and an emotional core rooted in family, as a father and daughter embark on a “sacred quest” after he returns from the dead.
“Corpse Knight was born out of my love of dark fantasy, but it quickly became something more. It’s a story of parenthood and mortality, told through heroes, monsters, and all the shades in between,” said Chaves. “I’ve been a fan of Matthew Roberts since Manifest Destiny, and I truly believe this is some of his finest work. His art is beautiful, tactile, and, when it needs to be, amazingly gruesome. Alongside Rico Renzi’s awesome color work, it’s everything you want from this kind of book.”

Set against a war-torn France, the series follows Foy who lives in fragile peace with her father until he’s tragically killed. Left alone and vulnerable, Foy is granted what seems like a miracle: her father returns from the dead to protect her. Together, they embark on a perilous journey across a countryside plagued by murderers, wild beasts, roaming armies and black magic. But as the body count rises and the truth behind the Corpse Knight is revealed, Foy must confront a terrifying question—has the man protecting her always been a monster?
“I was certain my next project would be anything but horror, but I’m having the best time drawing Corpse Knight, despite myself,” Roberts said. “Corpse Knight is a blast. Michael’s script has allowed me to play in a way I’ve not in the past, taking big swings but always feeling grounded by the family bond at the center. That bond is where I find the light, and it makes all the gruesome stuff even more fun to play with. Having Rico on board is the icing on the cake. I can’t imagine anyone else making the choices he makes with colors. I can’t wait for everyone to see what this team is putting together.”
Here’s a look at some of Roberts and Renzi’s interior artwork:
Alongside the main cover by Roberts and Renzi, the first issue will feature variants by Jae Lee, Tonči Zonjić, Nimit Malavia, Andrea Milana and Stephanie Hans. A die-cut helmet cover by Roberts and a blank sketch cover round out the lineup.

Corpse Knight #1 will arrive in comic shops from Skybound/Image Comics on April 22.
