Here’s a treat — courtesy of Clover Press, we’re pleased to share an exclusive first look at the slipcase for The DC Art of Bruno Redondo, the upcoming art book from Clover Press that collects some of the most gorgeous DC artwork of the past decade. Just writing that sentence makes me happy, because if there’s one artist working in superhero comics right now who deserves this kind of book, it’s Bruno Redondo.
Also, the slipcase features Nightwing and Batgirl — and Bitewing! — which is a huge plus.
Redondo got his footing on titles like Human Target and Batman: Arkham Unhinged, but things really started to click when he teamed up with writer Tom Taylor on Injustice: Gods Among Us. What could have been a straightforward video game tie-in became something special, in no small part because of what Redondo brought to the page , with his fluid, expressive linework, a real sense of weight and motion, and layouts that actually served the story rather than just showing off.

But the work that really put him on the map for a lot of people, myself included, was Nightwing. Beginning with issue #78, Redondo and Taylor took Dick Grayson and made him feel alive again. The book was bright, kinetic and full of heart. Redondo developed this incredible visual shorthand for how Dick moves that made every action sequence feel distinct and effortless. The run earned Eisner Awards for Best Continuing Series and Best Single Issue, and Redondo personally took home the Eisner for Best Cover Artist.

The book is a 200+ page, 9″x12″ hardcover that covers his defining runs on Injustice and Nightwing, plus selections from Justice League, Batman: Black & White, Harley Quinn: Black, White & Red and more. There’s also an introduction by Tom Taylor, which feels right.
“I have always been an avid fan of art books from the artists I admire,” said Redondo. “I consider them a great chance to learn and look behind the curtain of their creative process. So having the opportunity to share my own art book is quite a responsibility. I’m trying to be as open as possible to it and build a new bridge of communication through this, as a complement to my comic books. I hope you enjoy it, as well as some of the surprises we are working on!”

The Kickstarter campaign will also include some great extras: rarely-seen sketches and commissions, a fold-out edition of Nightwing #87, a sticker pack, a poster pack and Redondo’s Nightwing covers collected together. The Kickstarter campaign is tentatively set to launch next week, but you can head over to the pre-launch page right now to sign up for updates.
