Nominees have been announced recently for several different book awards programs, many of which include comic or graphic novel categories.
Let’s start with the Nebula Awards, which recognize the best in science fiction literature, games and media — and now comics, too. The Nebulas added a “Best Comic” category this year (along with a “Best Poem” category), and the nominees include:
- Second Shift, written and illustrated by Kit Anderson, published by Avery Hill
- Carmilla Volume 3: The Eternal, written by Amy Chu and illustrated by Soo Lee, published by Dark Horse’s Berger Books imprint
- Helen of Wyndhorn, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, published by Dark Horse
- Fishflies, written and illustrated by Jeff Lemire, published by Image Comics
- Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters: The Killing Stone, by Jessica Maison, published by Wicked Tree
- Strange Bedfellows, written and illustrated by Ariel Slamet Ries, published by HarperAlley
- The Flip Side, written and illustrated by Jason Walz, published by Rocky Pond
- The Stoneshore Register, written by G. Willow Wilson and illustrated by M. K. Perker, published by Dark Horse’s Berger Books
