Marv Wolfman, the writer of the classic New Teen Titans reboot in the 1980s and co-creator of Raven, will return to the character for a new 12-issue series with artist Pop Mhan. The follow-up to Wolfman’s previous Raven series will bring Rachel Roth together Baron Winters, leader of Night Force.
Here’s how DC describes Raven: Daughter of Darkness:
In Raven: Daughter of Darkness, Rachel will face another frightening supernatural threat, only this time, it’s one that’s very much grounded in reality. At the same time, she’ll also be dealing with some drama in her personal life as her mother returns and mixes things up with her Aunt Alice. (It’s going to get messy, guys. And when things get messy around Raven, giant frightening death demons tend to get unleashed in our world.)
But most intriguing of all is that Raven: Daughter of Darkness will also introduce another Marv Wolfman character to the world of Raven—Baron Winters. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the not-always-noble leader of Night Force, but Daughter of Darkness will bring him back as someone who will have to intercede on Raven’s behalf. But should she trust him?
Raven first debuted in 1980, one of four new characters introduced as part of Wolfman and George Perez’s New Teen Titans. Along with Beast Boy, Starfire and Cyborg, she’d go on to both comics and TV fame as a member of the team. The current “new 52” version of the character was re-introduced in The Phantom Stranger #1 in 2012.
The new series arrives in January. Cover art below by Yanick Paquette:
