If things have seemed tense between Batman and Robin lately, well … as the saying goes, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
With a post that exclaims “The Bat is out of the bag!” artist Mahmud Asrar reveals that he’s working on a new Batman vs. Robin event series with writer Mark Waid and colorist Nathan Fairbairn.
“BATMAN vs ROBIN is a five part event by Mark Waid and I coming this fall from DC Comics to shake things up for Bruce’s world,” the artist said on both Tumblr and Twitter.
The new pop culture site Popverse has a story up with quotes from Waid about the project, which they say will begin in September.
“What I can say is that the first arc of World’s Finest is, was, and always has been, designed deliberately to lead into what is going to be Batman vs. Robin,” Waid told Popverse. “What I was trying to do with Batman versus Robin was try to take them into a realm that I’m not used to seeing them in, which is dark magic sorcery, rather than science, rather than logic and detective stuff. We’ve seen Batman and sort of peripheral magic, but I want to get into the down and dirty of it.”
Waid made his return to DC in a big way earlier this year by writing a new World’s Finest title featuring Batman and Superman. That comic’s first arc has been focused on the past, featuring Dick Grayson as Robin, but based on Asrar’s cover it looks like the Robin in conflict here is Damian Wayne — which makes sense given recent events in their world.
And oh hey, one more thing … here’s a tease of a new character coming to World’s Finest by that book’s artist Dan Mora:
