A new Image Comics miniseries will explore a world where old women are sent to an island to live out the reminder of their lives — and battle to the death. My grandma and your grandma, sitting by the fire …
Golden Rage by Chrissy Williams, Lauren Knight, Sofie Dodgson, Becca Carey and Joamette Gil will feature a little-seen demographic in comics — older woman, and showcase how they can kick as much ass as anyone. (My grandmother, who played bingo in some pretty sketchy places, carried a butcher knife in her purse).
“Old women are formidable—I wrote Golden Rage to reflect that,” said Williams. “These characters are tough, capable, kind, and funny. I’ve fallen in love with the combination of cake and stabbing weapons, and hope you will too.”
Here’s the description: In a world where older women who’ve been deemed useless to society are abandoned on an island, Golden Rage documents their golden years of making friends, baking dessert and fighting to the death for survival.
“My brand is Angry Women and Golden Rage let me play around with characters we don’t get to see enough of in media,” Knight said. “Read this if you’re looking for great examples on how to age disgracefully and for granny-on-granny violence with a gratuitous side helping of heart.”

This is Williams’ debut as a writer, but her name should be familiar to fans of Die and The Wicked + The Divine, as she edited both series. Knight has worked on BOOM!’s Buffy series, while Dodgson has worked on Bitter Root and Tank Girl. Carey’s design work includes a really long list of credits for DC, BOOM! Image and more, and Gil’s work includes the recent ‘Mañana’ anthology for her own Power & Magic Press.
Golden Rage will start busting heads on April 3.
