Dark Horse celebrates Halloween with two specials in October

The ‘Headless Horseman’ annual will return, while Christopher Chaos gets his own special.

October is typically the month when we can expect an onslaught of Halloween-themed comics, and it looks like this year will, thankfully, be no different. Dark Horse will celebrate the greatest of holidays twice this year, with a 2024 Headless Horseman Halloween Annual and the first Christopher Chaos Halloween Special. Both specials will feature multiple stories by different creative teams.

First up, coming your way Oct. 2 is the Christopher Chaos anthology, featuring stories set in the weird world of James Tynion IV and Isaac Goodhart’s hero. The two creators will contribute a story that Goodhart says springs from a personal conversation between the two of them.

“My eight-page short with James was born out of late-night conversations we had on the road promoting Christopher Chaos issue 1,” Goodhart said. “It’s very certainly the most personal and best story I’ve ever worked on, and I’m so proud I got to tell it with my friend.”

The anthology will also include:

  • Tate Brombal and Phil Jimenez introduce a wild new monster far above the Arctic Circle.
  • Brombal is joined by Morgan Beem for a sweet and spooky story of young Christopher during a Halloween long past.
  • Soo Lee and Nick Robles both write and draw their own stories set in this universe.

“My story in this amazing anthology is just a small taste of one of the most interesting characters in the Christopher Chaos universe,” Lee said. “A tale of transformation for Jordi in more ways than one!”

The Christopher Chaos Halloween Special features a cover by David Talaski, as well as a variant cover by Jeff Lemire.

Then later in the month, Dark Horse brings back an anthology they launched last year for another round of fright.

Dark Horse debuted the first Headless Horseman horror anthology last October, and this year they continue the theme with stories by David Dastmalchian, Leah Kilpatrick, Lukas Ketner, Ben Stenbeck, James Asmus, Matt Smith, Chris Panda and more.

Ketner drew the main cover, shown above, while Francavilla drew the variant:

The Headless Horseman Halloween Annual 2024, featuring 56 pages of horror, will arrive in comic shops on Oct. 23.
