Can’t Wait for Wednesday | Alan Scott takes center stage in DC’s annual Pride anthology

Plus: Marvel’s ‘Imperial’ launches a new era for their cosmic titles! The Justice League collides with Godzilla (again)! Miles Morales goes home (sort of)! And ‘The Sixth Gun’ returns!

Welcome to Can’t Wait for Wednesday, your guide to what comics are arriving in comic book stores, bookstores and on digital.

I’ve pulled out some of the highlights for this week below, but for the complete list of everything you might find at your local comic shop and on digital this week, you’ll want to check out one or more of the following:

As a reminder, things can change and what you find on the above lists may differ from what’s actually arriving in your local shop. So check with your retailer to see what’s arriving at their shop this week.

DC Pride 2025 (DC, $9.99): DC’s annual Pride Month anthology returns with stories by Tim Sheridan, Vita Ayala, Josh Trujillo, Sam Maggs, Maya Houston, Jude Ellison S. Doyle, Emilio Pilliu, Skylar Patridge, A.L. Kaplan, Vincent Cecil and more. The main story will feature Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, as he revisits a queer-friendly speakeasy in Gotham that’s about to close. It’ll also feature an autobiographical story by trans creator Jenny Blake, co-creator of Black Lightning, and artist Sara Soler.

Imperial #1 (Marvel, $6.99): Jonathan Hickman, the architect of the successful Ultimate Comics relaunch, turns his attention to Marvel’s cosmic characters in this four-issue miniseries. Hickman is joined by two artists, Federico Vicentini and Iban Coello, who will present new takes on everyone from Nova to the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as exploring the legacies of Planet Hulk and the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. This should be fun.

The Sixth Gun: Road to the Six #0 (Oni Press, $4.99): Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt are back in the world of the Sixth Gun, their western/horror adventure series that Oni debuted about a decade and a half ago. This one-shot will “bridge the gap between the explosive finale of the landmark original series and the powerful new chapter soon to be written with a self-contained, one-shot prelude featuring three, all-new stories . . . leading directly into The Sixth Gun’s 15th anniversary celebration!”

Marvel Knights: The World to Come #1 (Marvel, $5.99): Joe Quesada and Christopher Priest team up for a new Black Panther miniseries in the spirit of their work on the character when he fell under the Marvel Knights banner. This six-issue miniseries reimagines the future of the Marvel Universe, starting with the death of the Black Panther.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 (DC, $4.99): Last year’s king-sized crossover featuring King Kong, Godzilla and the Justice League gets a sequel series, as Brian Buccellato and Christian Duce once again bring the legendary heroes and Legendary Monsters together.

Endless Night #1 (Mad Cave Studios, $4.99): Mark London and Tom Derenick bring together the “Underworld” shared universe characters into one book, as they battle Axel Black, an obsessive tech billionaire and head of the sinister Order of Nine, who is searching for a mysterious artifact that could cause a catastrophe.

Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1 (Marvel, $5.99): Miles Morales, a character born in the original Ultimate Universe who then migrated to the 616, finds his way into the new Ultimate Universe in this new miniseries by Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar and Jonas Scharf. It will feature characters from all five Ultimate titles in addition to Miles and his little sister.

Something Beyond the Petrichor #1 (Red 5, $4.95): Red 5 previewed this new title by Dakota Brown and David Lujan on Free Comic Book Day; it’s about a woman and her stuffed turtle who manage to survive an acid rain apocalypse and set on a journey of discovery.

Ghost Rider vs. Galactus (Marvel, $4.99): J. Michael Straczynski’s oddball team-up titles continue in this one-shot featuring a unique pairing and art by Juan Ferreyra. Galactus has killed billions, and now he must face an entity that could turn all those deaths against him — the Spirit of Vengeance.

Search & Destroy Vol. 2 (Fantagraphics, $14.99): Atsushi Kaneko reimagines Osamu Tezuka’s Dororo as a “cyberpunk thriller” in the second of three volumes that collects the story originally serialized in the Japanese manga monthly TezuComi. The original Dororo was set in feudal Japan and featured a swordsman and a thief hunting for the swordsman’s organs, which were bartered away by his father to demons in exchange for dominance on the battlefield. Search & Destroy moves the story into a dystopian post-cold-war future where mercenary robots serve the human elite and victimize the city’s scrabbling, desperate masses. The violent death of one of these robots connects an orphaned thief named Doro with a mysterious girl with deadly cybernetic implants.

Kanga-U: Tests and Tournaments (DC, $12.99): Sholly Fisch and Yancey Labat venture to Themyscira for a tale featuring a young Diana and her kanga, Jumpa, on Bonding Day, the day Amazons and kangas form their life-long bond. When Ares shows up for the big event, things get crazy.

DC Pride Box Set (DC, $39.99): If you missed the DC Pride specials from previous years, DC is offering this box set of the hardcover versions, which include stories by Kevin Conroy, Grant Morrison, James Tynion IV, Mariko Tamaki, Nicole Maines, Trung Le Nguyen, Klaus Janson, Vita Ayala, Zoe Thorogood and many more. It includes the specials from 2021, 2022 and 2023, and they’re also releasing a hardcover version of 2024 this week that you can buy separately.
