January’s a big month for Marvel with a lot of new titles debuting, including a new Iron Man title, Dungeons of Doom, a Knull miniseries and the entire Shadows of Tomorrow line, among many othesr, as you’ll see below.

But before getting into more of that new stuff, let’s look at a big milestone issue that lands in January — Avengers #34, or #800 with legacy numbering. The oversized milestone issue features Earth’s Mightiest Heroes dealing with the long-simmering clash between Kang and Myrddin, which writer Jed MacKay introduced when he took over the title and finally erupts into cosmic chaos.

Featuring art by Farid Karami, this giant-sized anniversary issue also features special backup stories by “surprise guest creators” from Avengers’ history. Speculation online points to the return of Brian Michael Bendis to the title, but we’ll see what Marvel announces in the coming weeks.

The issue sports a wraparound connecting cover by Russell Dauterman that continues through Avengers #36.

January brings several new X-titles with the debut of the post-Age of Revelation storyline Shadows of Tomorrow. But this flashback title goes back further in time, back to when Psylocke first became a ninja. Psylocke: Ninja reveals a hidden chapter from Betsy Braddock’s time under the Hand’s control before she rejoined the X-Men, as her new body and lethal skills faced the ultimate test when Marvel’s deadliest killer, Elektra, came calling.

Psylocke: Ninja is a sort of spiritual successor to Rogue: The Savage Land—essentially, taking an iconic moment from X-Men history, finding unexplored avenues, plots and character relationships to dive deep into–and then dressing it up in the sexiest art and X-uniforms,” Seeley said. “For Psylocke, the story of her forced servitude to the Hand, and how that might tie nicely into concurrent Daredevil stories from the same era was REAL INTERESTING, because my god, it all fits.”

Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Nico Leon, Psylocke: Ninja is a five-issue miniseries that digs into Psylocke’s ‘90s reinvention. The debut issue features a main cover by Derrick Chew, variants by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Juan Frigeri, Nogi San, Pablo Villalobos and Skottie Young, and a foil variant by Dike Ruan.

While Psylocke: Ninja explores Betsy Braddock’s deadly past in the main Marvel Universe, an alternate version of the character returns in Sai: Dimensional Rivals #1, the next chapter of Peach Momoko’s Demon Days saga. In Momoko’s world, Psylocke is reimagined as Sai, a psychic warrior who hunts Yokai in feudal Japan. This time, she’s venturing beyond her realm on a journey across the multiverse in search of a new set of Infinity Stones.

“I’m happy to start a new comic about Sai with artists I’ve met at comic events and through work and now consider friends,” Momoko said. “For this series, Sai will be the main character. I asked various artists to have fun depicting Sai in their own unique vision. Sai will be traveling between different universes and having different experiences based on each artist’s own perspectives. I think it will be a wonderful collaboration and I hope everyone enjoys Sai’s new charm!”

Written and illustrated by Peach Momoko in collaboration with comics legend Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), the five-issue limited series brings together a collective of top artists — including Esad Ribić, Natacha Bustos, Mike del Mundo and Sara Pichelli — to depict Sai’s travels through distinct dimensions and artistic styles. Sai: Dimensional Rivals #1 features a main cover by Momoko and arrives Jan. 14.

From the mythic to the merciless, Logan: Black, White & Blood #1 brings Wolverine back to his brutal roots in a four-issue anthology as part of the Black, White & Blood line that began in 2020. These stories traces Logan’s violent history across decades, from classified missions in the 1950s to blood-soaked hunts through 1970s Times Square and harrowing escapes from Weapon X. Each story is told in stark black, white and splashes of red, of course.

The debut issue features stories from Wolverine creators like Larry Hama, Adam Kubert, Saladin Ahmed and Tom Waltz, as well as Alex Lins and Dave Wachter, with a main cover by Alex Maleev and variant covers by Kubert, Andrea Sorrentino and Woo-Chul Lee. Logan: Black, White & Blood #1 slashes its way into shops on Jan. 14.

It’s a big month for K-pop sensation and ice-powered hero Luna Snow, who takes center stage in two new Marvel releases this January. First up is Luna Snow: World Tour #1, a one-shot by writer Greg Pak and artists Ario Anindito and Takeshi Miyazawa. Picking up after the events of One World Under Doom, the story finds Luna at rock bottom after her controversial alliance with the former sorcerer supreme. Dropped by her label and replaced by a rival named Vibe, Luna hits the road to rebuild her career. But when Vibe’s dangerously hypnotic music begins to ensnare her fans, Luna must channel her heartbreak into heroism to save the day. Here’s a look at Vibe:

“Luna Snow’s been a blast to write ever since she debuted in comics in the War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas book. But this new story is something special – we get to focus on her as the hero and dig deep into what it means to be a pop star and a super hero at a time when fascists and exploiters have very specific uses for pop stars and super heroes,” Pak said. “We’ve got a fantastic new K-pop villain named Vibe, who you’ll love to hate, a couple big surprise classic Marvel guest stars and absolutely top tier art from Ario Anindito and Tak Miyazawa. The art pops, the book rocks, and you do not wanna miss it!”

Luna Snow: World Tour #1 drops on Jan. 14.

Fresh off her World Tour, Luna Snow’s next gig takes her to the mystical city of K’un-Lun in Marvel Rivals: The Cities of Heaven #1. Written by Paul Allor with art by Michael Shelfer and Eric Gapstur, this oversized one-shot ties into the hit video game. When she sets out to perform at the legendary Chi Hive tavern, Luna ends up in the middle of a mythic showdown between Iron Fist’s successor Lin Lie, Angela, Magik and Hulk.

With a cover by Nico Leon, Marvel Rivals: The Cities of Heaven #1 arrives Jan. 21.

In Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1, Peter Parker teams up with a new hero named Rapid. Written by Saladin Ahmed and Joe Kelly with art by Federico Vicentini, this annual puts Spidey in the mentor seat as he shows the rookie speedster what it means to protect the neighborhood from the likes (and comments) of social media baddie Screwball

Featuring a cover by Francesco Mobili and a variant by Gabriele Dell’Otto, Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 races into stores Jan. 28.
