Sonic the Hedgehog + Godzilla meet in comics this summer

Writer Nick Marino and artist Jack Lawrence bring the two iconic franchises together in a crossover event launching this summer.

Sonic is one busy hedgehog. In addition to his own comic and the recent crossover with DC (for which a sequel will arrive later this year), IDW has added another item to his “to do” list — Sonic x Godzilla, a new crossover series pairing the video game hero with the King of the Monsters (whose schedule stays pretty full as well).

The series is written by Nick Marino and illustrated by Jack Lawrence, with colors by Reggie Graham. It’ll kick off this summer and marks the first time the two franchises have crossed over in comics.

“I’m doing my best to cook up fun scenarios for Jack to draw, and then I’m making sure my panel counts leave enough room for him to properly play around with the fantastic spectacle that this crossover deserves,” Marino said. “I’m fascinated by the scale of life, how we perceive lifeforms differently from bacteria to planet-wide ecosystems, from micro to macro. This particular character combination allows me to explore that in a fun way, and it’s been really satisfying. I hope our readers agree that the result is a cohesive mix of these two visual focuses– small speedsters and massive monsters– that delivers the best of both worlds!”

Transformers, My Little Pony will cross over again in April

The Autobots and Decepticons will revisit Equestria in the four-issue series.

Two of Hasbro’s properties will collide again in My Little Pony / Transformers II, a four-issue miniseries launching in April from IDW Publishing.

The creative team for the first issue includes writers James Asmus and Sam Maggs, and artists Jack Lawrence and Casey W. Coller. Ian Flynn, Priscilla Tramontano and Tony Fleecs will also contribute to the series.

“I can’t wait to jump back into this world of magical friendships that really is More than Meets the Eye,” said Maggs. “It’s such a blast coming up with the most fun (and downright weird) pairings of ponies and ‘bots, and I think fans of both series are going to be surprised at what’s we’ve got for them this second time around!”

IDW announces Sonic spinoff series, new writer

Artist Evan Stanley will write the main Sonic title as Ian Flynn focuses on the four-issue “Sonic: Bad Guys.”

IDW has announced Sonic the Hedgehog’s summer plans, which include a new writer for the main title and a spinoff series featuring several Sonic bad guys.

Beginning with issue #33, Sonic illustrator Evan Stanley will take over both writing and drawing the main title.

Sonic the Hedgehog comics have been a constant source of joy and inspiration for me for well over 10 years, and the truth is, this opportunity is a dream I didn’t believe could come true,” said Stanley. “The world of Sonic has a truly amazing creative legacy, and I’ve always pushed myself to make my contributions as meaningful and worthwhile as they can be — and that’s more important than ever now. I hope I can deepen the world of IDW’s Sonic The Hedgehog comics, exploring new places and characters while continuing to deliver exciting adventures about Sonic and his friends!”
