Thomas Krajewski + Jason Muhr revive ‘Marvel Zombies’ with a twist this September

When Groot gets sick, things go very wrong for the Avengers.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a new Marvel Zombies title, but this fall Marvel will dig the property up again, with a Groot-flavored twist.

Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay by Thomas Krajewski (DC’s Primer) and Jason Muhr (the awesome By the Horns) will see a new zombie virus unleashed across the Marvel Universe — or a Marvel Universe, anyway. It starts when a sick Groot accidentally spreads a virus among the Avengers that turns them into zombies, and it’s up to Groot and the Hulk to find a cure (and not smash any Avengers in the process).

Steve Orlando returns to Spider-Man 2099 for another weekly miniseries

Orlando will work with a variety of artists on the series, which will introduce 2099 versions of classic Marvel horror characters.

Steve Orlando will return to the world of 2099 next year with another weekly limited series featuring the co-star of one of this year’s hottest movies — and no, I don’t mean Barbie 2099.

Orlando, who previously wrote the Exodus and Dark Genesis miniseries, has written a new story titled Miguel O’Hara: Spider-Man 2099. It’ll feature 2099 variants of Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, Terror Inc. and more, with a different artist working on each of the five issues.

“Returning to 2099 has been a blast, especially with the chance to do this series of one-shots crashing Miguel up against some of Marvel’s greatest horror icons–all of whom are newly debuting in 2099!” Orlando told Marvel.com. “I can’t think of a better reality to work in than the world of 2099—that dark, neon projection of our own modern day. And no matter the horror coming in the series, Spider-Man 2099 is set to defend his city and his people—whether it’s with a gravity-defying moon shot, an infestation of next-generation zombies, or helping a mercenary werewolf finally cut his leash!”

Naso + Muhr look to crowdfund a ‘By the Horns’ deluxe hardcover

The Scout Comics series comes to Kickstarter for a hardcover collection + a range of extras.

Markisan Naso and Jason Muhr followed up the excellent Voracious with the even better By The Horns, creating a rich fantasy world with modern sensibilities — and a woman who hated unicorns. They’re looking to collect the first miniseries, By The Horns: The Wind Rises into a deluxe hardcover, and they’ve turned to Kickstarter to fund it.

The series and its follow-up, as well as trade paperback collections, were released by Scout Comics, but to do something special like a hardcover, the team said they had to turn to crowdfunding. Scout Comics is not involved with the crowdfunding campaign.

“Sure, By The Horns has a publisher and loyal fans, but the series still takes a lot to put it together and it’s a small, indie comic,” they said on their Kickstarter page. “All the costs to create the book come out of our pockets up front. So, when it comes to doing something really big thing like a hardcover edition, we just need a little help to make it happen.”

‘Voracious’ unleashes an ‘Appetite for Destruction’ on Kickstarter

Markisan Naso and Jason Muhr wrap up their time-travel/foodie mash-up with a new miniseries later this year.

Voracious by Markisan Naso and Jason Muhr was an unexpected surprise back in 2016, as the interesting concept — a chef travels back in time to obtain dinosaur meat for his restaurant — turned into an even more interesting story about family, love, alternate dimensions and talking dinosaurs. The first miniseries, published by Action Lab Entertainment, spawned a sequel, and now the creators are turning to Kickstarter to bring a third one to life.

“With ‘Appetite for Destruction,’ Markisan and I finally get to complete Nate and company’s story,” Muhr said in a press release. “‘Destruction’ is our craziest arc yet. Readers have no idea where it’s all heading, and I’m having a blast working on some truly insane visuals. Fair warning: there will be blood!”
