Thomas Krajewski + Jason Muhr revive ‘Marvel Zombies’ with a twist this September

When Groot gets sick, things go very wrong for the Avengers.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a new Marvel Zombies title, but this fall Marvel will dig the property up again, with a Groot-flavored twist.

Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay by Thomas Krajewski (DC’s Primer) and Jason Muhr (the awesome By the Horns) will see a new zombie virus unleashed across the Marvel Universe — or a Marvel Universe, anyway. It starts when a sick Groot accidentally spreads a virus among the Avengers that turns them into zombies, and it’s up to Groot and the Hulk to find a cure (and not smash any Avengers in the process).

Slugfest | Have a very ‘Criminal’ Christmas

Image Comics is serving up a Christmas treat for Criminal fans in the pages of their Image! 30th anniversary anthology. Creators Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have created a Christmas story starring Teeg Lawless in a take-off of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.

“I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas-themed Criminal story since we first started the book,” said Brubaker. “So, Sean and I had a blast returning to that world for ‘Teeg’s Christmas Carol.’ Twelve pages of bad dad Christmases and history lessons.”

Can’t Wait for Comics | Building toward ‘Empyre’

New comics arrive this week from Terry Moore, Mark Russell, Steve Rude, Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino and more.

The summer crossover season gets in full swing at your local comic shop this week; following the release of Dark Knights: Death Metal last week, Marvel delivers the start of their big cosmic event, Empyre. This week also brings several debuts from IDW, AHOY and Image, among others … it’s almost starting to feel like comics have returned to normal.
