IDW will launch a new Crime imprint in May

The new imprint will launch with ‘Seven Wives’ by Zoe Tunnell, V Gagnon and Tesslyn Bergin-Dicoi.

IDW has announced a new imprint to complement IDW Dark, the horror line they announced last year. IDW Crime will feature — you guessed it — crime comics.

The line will feature stories about “twisted, everyday acts of humans that we just can’t look away from,” and will launch with projects by Zoe Tunnell, V Gagnon, Joey Esposito, Amy Chase and more.

“Crime has a deep, often under-celebrated history in comics, from hard-boiled noir to social thrillers that pushed the medium to be bolder, sharper and more adult,” said IDW Senior Group Editor Heather Antos. “With the IDW Crime imprint, we’re honoring that legacy while giving it a modern spotlight — elevating creator-driven stories that feel urgent, character-forward, and unapologetically human. These are stories about obsession, consequence and the ability to hold a mirror up to society, and we couldn’t be more excited to help bring them back to the forefront of mainstream comics.”

Here’s a look at the three titles IDW announced today:

Speedwalk toward justice in Joey Esposito + Sean Von Gorman’s ‘The Pedestrian’

The latest title from Magma Comix strolls into shops this August.

A sleepy town will get the hero it needs this summer in The Pedestrian, a new series coming from Magma Comix by writer Joey Esposito and artist Sean Von Gorman.

The comic, which is about a guy who speedwalks, was born from the longtime friendship between Esposito and Von Gorman.

“I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have finally found myself in a partnership with people who share the same comics-making ethos as myself,” Esposito said. “I love making comics because at the end of the day, in the best case scenario, at least for me, it’s about making something cool with your friends. That’s what this book is—born out of a collab-turned-friendship with Sean (more than a decade old at this point) because we’re both pushing each other to another level—and having a blast doing it. Working with Magma is a huge part of this equation as well, because in my 15 years of making comics, I’ve never had a publisher so supportive. They make comics for comics’ sake and support their creators. This is the most excited I’ve ever been about a book, perhaps because it’s been the most collaborative.”

Joey Esposito and Austin Baechle bring Grover back to comics for a four-issue miniseries.

Everything’s A-OK down at Oni Press, which announced a partnership with Sesame Workshop to bring Big Bird, Grover and the gang back to comics.

The four-issue Sesame Street: Grover Lends a Hand miniseries will begin in August, by writer Joey Esposito and artist Austin Baechle.

“We are incredibly excited and grateful to be able to partner with the incomparable Sesame Street, who has been at the forefront of children’s education since its inception in 1969,” Editor Megan Brown said. “As someone who grew up with the likes of Big Bird, Elmo and more, it’s been a joy to be able to enter this world and add to its comics legacy. We hope that readers of all ages will enjoy the wonderful and heartwarming antics of Grover, Bert & Ernie, The Count, Cookie Monster and all the other residents as they take a trip down Sesame Street!”
