The new Spider-Girl leaps into her own series in June

Torunn Grønbekk and André Risso will reveal more about the character introduced recently in ‘Spider-Boy.’

The new Spider-Girl who has been hanging out with Spider-Boy in the pages of his comic will swing over to her own ongoing series this June.

Torunn Grønbekk and André Risso will tell new stories featuring the Hawaiian mutant, named Makawalu “Maka” Akana. She started her career as the villainous Funhouse, but broke away from her mentor, Bullseye, and became a hero. The new series “will shed light on the character’s backstory, reveal the full extent of her mutant abilities and reveal whether she can truly leave behind her villainous ways to stand as a hero.”

“Spider-Girl is a blast—joyful, irreverent, mischievous, and righteous. Leaving Bullseye behind, she’s starting fresh in New York, exploring her new home and embracing her Spider-Girl powers with fearlessness and a touch of innocence,” Grønbekk said. “She eagerly jumps into fights others would think better of (often against some of our favorite Spidey villains!), and her arrival has definitely caught the attention of the criminal underworld – but maybe not for the reason one would think.”

Chip Zdarsky + Valerio Schiti will chronicle Captain America’s early adventures in the modern era

Debuting in July, the new series explores Cap’s adventures after the thaw.

Batman and Daredevil writer Chip Zdarsky and G.O.D.S. artist Valerio Schiti are headed back to the past in July as the new creative team on Captain America.

Now typically when you hear about a Captain America series set in the past, it’s focused on his star-spangled adventures during World War II — but not this series. This one will be set right after Captain America was thawed out of the ice, as seen in Avengers #4 back in the 1960s, and it’ll flesh out the adventures he had before he joined the team.

“I’ve been a massive Captain America fan for decades. I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream!” Zdarsky said. “We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers! I’m pretty excited to get this out there in the world, especially with Valerio and Frank’s amazing art!”

Marvel will ‘Bring On The Bad Guys’ this summer

Doctor Doom, Mephisto, Loki and more will star in a series of seven connected one-shots.

Marvel will resurrect an old title for a new event this summer. The publisher will pay tribute to Bring On The Bad Guys, a collection of villain-focused origin stories published in the 1970s, with a connected series of seven one-shots.

Marc Guggenheim and Stefano Raffaele will kick things off with Bring On The Bad Guys: Doctor Doom in June, followed by comics featuring Green Goblin, Loki, Abomination, Red Skull, Dormammu and Mephisto, which will take us through August. Creative teams for subsequent volumes have not been announced.

Super genius Amadeus Cho gets a 20th anniversary special from Marvel this May

Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa reunite for new stories featuring the character they debuted in 2005’s ‘Amazing Fantasy’ #15.

Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa, the creators of the super-boy-genius-turned-gamma-irradiated-hero Amadeus Cho, will reunite for a new anthology special that celebrates the character’s 20th anniversary.

Amadeus Cho first appeared in 2005’s Amazing Fantasy #15, also an anthology, in a story titled “Mastermind Excello.” Other characters and concepts introduced in the special include the organization known as G.R.A.M.P.A., the duo known as Blackjack, Positron and a new version of Monstro — although I don’t think any of them will be getting their own 20th anniversary special.

Amadeus Cho has gone on to appear in Incredible Hulk, Incredible Hercules and Champions, and gained gamma powers along the way as the hero Brawn.

“I’m a little stunned that Amadeus Cho has been around 20 years now and absolutely thrilled that we’re celebrating with this big one-shot,” Pak said. “I knew we had something special when Tak Miyazawa sent in his very first awesome designs of Amadeus and his pup and scooter back when, but I don’t think any of us could have predicted how the character would absolutely take off.”

Vision + Scarlet Witch reunite in a new miniseries coming in May

Steve Orlando, Lorenzo Tammetta and Jacopo Camagni bring the iconic — and ultimately tragic — couple back together to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Steve Orlando will continue to tell stories featuring the Scarlet Witch in a new miniseries that reunites her with her ex. The Vision & the Scarlet Witch features the iconic couple in a new story drawn by artists Lorenzo Tammetta and Jacopo Camagni.

The miniseries marks the 50th anniversary of the couple’s wedding in Giant-Size Avengers #4 by Steve Englehart, Don Heck, John Tartaglione and Petra Goldberg. From there the couple appeared consistently in the Avengers, eventually scored their own miniseries and finally broke up in the pages of West Coast Avengers. Despite some rough times since — Avengers Disassembled, anyone? — the couple seems to be in a better place now, as seen in recent issues of Avengers and Scarlet Witch.

“When it comes to the Scarlet Witch, anything’s possible!” Orlando said. “Now, on the 50th Anniversary of their wedding, the Vision and the Scarlet Witch reunite to face a creeping, corrosive evil from beyond not just the grave, but beyond the universe itself. Wanda and Vision remain one of Marvel’s most iconic couples — and not just for their marriage, but for everything since.”

John Jennings + Jethro Morales present a rematch between Ironheart + Khem in ‘Ironheart: Bad Chemistry’

The one-shot arrives from Marvel in April.

John Jennings will once again bring Ironheart and the villainous Khem together in a new one-shot, Ironheart: Bad Chemistry, with artist Jethro Morales.

Jennings and artist Paris Alleyne first introduced Khem in the 2023 Marvel’s Voices Free Comic Book Day issue. She has ties to the old Power Man and Iron Fist villain Chemistro, and this story has her stealing “a legendary Marvel artifact” to upgrade her own alchemical powers.

“When Marvel asked me to revisit working on Ironheart and expanding her rivalry with Khem, I was overjoyed!” Jennings said. “I got a chance to revisit their conflict and really explore Khem’s background and motivations. I had a blast working on this book with such amazing talent and I hope the fans enjoy the ride!”

Marvel will celebrate 50 years of Storm this April

‘Storm’ #7 by Murewa Ayodele and Luciano Vecchio will bring the thunder.

It’s been 50 years since the debut of Giant Size X-Men #1, which introduced us to several new X-Men, including Colossus, Nightcrawler and a weather-controlling mutant from Africa named Storm. With this year marking her golden anniversary, Marvel will celebrate with a special issue of Storm in April by pitting her against a whole legion of thunder gods, including Thor.

Writer Murewa Ayodele will team with guest artist Luciano Vecchio for the issue.

“Creative giants, Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, changed the Marvel and mutant landscape with Giant Size X-Men #1. This year, we’ll do the same with Storm #7,” Ayodele said. “Bold words, I know. But that’s because I’ve read the illustrated issue.”

Storm’s profile in the Marvel Universe has certainly been raised over the past year with the launch of her ongoing series and her membership in the Avengers. But she’s always played a big part in not only the X-titles, but in the broader Marvel Universe.

“For the past five decades of publication, Storm has been an X-Man, Wakandan, Fantastic Four member, Avenger and so much more. As she steps into this new phase of her life, her role morphs into becoming one with the Marvel Universe as she faces soul-crushing, cosmic labors to protect all we hold dear. But first, a brutal brawl with thunder deities from powerful pantheons,” Ayodele said.

Doom assembles his own Avengers team in ‘Superior Avengers’

The six-issue miniseries ties into ‘One World Under Doom’ and kicks off in April.

In the spirit of Dark Avengers, Doctor Doom will assemble his own team of Avengers during the One World Under Doom crossover event that officially kicks off next month.

The six-issue Superior Avengers by Steve Foxe and Luca Maresca will bring together a team sporting the names of familiar villains, as they help implement Doom’s new world order.

“Introducing any new character to the Marvel Universe—let alone an entire cast of them—is both an honor and no small terror, so when editor Wil Moss reached out about developing an intense, secretive team of Avengers for One World Under Doom, I knew I had to swing for the fences,” Foxe said. “The Avengers that readers are going to meet here may have familiar names, but you’ll quickly come to learn why they consider themselves superior to other teams. This book features some of the most ruthless, wide-scale action I’ve ever written at Marvel, and I’m so thrilled to be telling this story alongside Luca Maresca. Luca nails both the subtler mind games at play in our story and the (sometimes literally) breakneck action.”

Marvel celebrates 400 issues of ‘Wolverine’ in April

If you were to go back and count up how many issues of Wolverine Marvel has published, you’d … likely have a hard time deciding what counted as a “Wolverine” comic, given how many one-shots and miniseries he appeared in. Marvel seems to just be counting issues of ongoing series here, and since #300 landed in 2012, it seems to make sense that we’ve now reached issue #400 — or we will with Wolverine #8 in April.

The “massive” issue will include two stories by the series’ creative team, Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo, along with a third story written and drawn by Do a Powerbomb creator Daniel Warren Johnson.

“A big anniversary issue is always a great excuse to go crazy with reveals and unveilings, and we’ve taken that to heart here!” Ahmed said. “In this over-sized issue an old enemy drives Logan’s new pupil the Wendigo to the brink, Logan finally comes face to face with the cryptic entity known as  the Adamantine, and a stunning new family revelation plants the seeds for the next chaotic chapter of Logan’s life.”

The Predator stalks Spider-Man in a new miniseries next year

Peter Parker’s luck just got even worse, thanks to Benjamin Percy and Marcelo Ferreira.

After being teased in November, Marvel has officially announced Predator vs. Spider-Man, a four-issue miniseries by Benjamin Percy and Marcelo Ferreira. It follows on the heels of the two previous Predator vs. … series featuring Wolverine and Black Panther, which were both written by Percy.

“Spider-Man is at the top of every writer’s wishlist. I’m thrilled and grateful to get this opportunity, putting this beloved webslinger against the galaxy’s greatest hunters in the urban wilderness of New York,” Percy said. “It’s so much fun to live in Peter Parker’s world — and to put my own wild spin on his relationship with MJ, Jonah Jameson, and (yes — oh, hell yes) Kraven. Marcelo Ferreira captures the visual dynamism of Spidey so well, and we’ve had a lot of fun designing a Predator that is unlike any other. This Yautja — who we’re calling Skinner — has no code or clan. He’s the perfect nightmarish foil to the big-hearted Parker.”

Marvel plans to reboot ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ in April

Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr. will helm a new ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1 next year.

Joe Kelly’s tenure on Amazing Spider-Man will extend beyond “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man,” the storyline currently running in the title. Marvel has announced that John Romita Jr. and Pepe Larraz will join the writer on a new Amazing Spider-Man #1 next April.

According to Marvel, the new title will feature “classic” Spider-Man storytelling, featuring Peter Parker, his new girlfriend Shay, the redeemed Norman Osborn and “the greatest supervillains in all of pop culture.” Batman may have a thought about that last one …

“Even though this is a new #1, I don’t think of it as a ‘restart’ per se,” Kelly told Polygon. “I’m writing the next chapter of the story of one the world’s greatest characters, lucky enough to follow in the footsteps of the folks before me. After that sinks in, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I love about Spider-Man and his cast, what stories resonated with me at different times of my life, and how I can synthesize all of that into something that works with what came before but breaks new ground. I’m fascinated by the internal lives of these characters and exploring new territory there — Peter’s youth is interesting, for example, the days before he was “puny Parker” in high school. At the same time, I feel a drive to take bold, unexpected swings in order to see how Spider-Man deals with Marvel-sized curve balls. Pressure makes diamonds.”
