Christopher Monfette + Miguel Martos explore the supernatural South in ‘TexArcanum’

Dark Horse Comics will publish the miniseries beginning in July.

Dark Horse Comics has announced the “horror in the Heartland” comic TexArcanum, a fun play off of Texarkana, the city that sits close to the Texas-Arkansas border. The title will mesh “unfamiliar mythologies and American identities into one new story,” according to the publisher.

The miniseries is by television writer/producer Christopher Monfette (Star Trek: PicardMarvel’s Vision12 Monkeys) and artist Miguel Martos. They’ll be joined by colorist Patricio Delpeche and letterer Michael Heisler.

“Avery might wear a cowboy hat, drive a pick-up and talk with the dry wit of a Middle-American noir-PI, but he travels through pockets of culture and folklore that are seldom explored and yet the very definition of this country,” said Monfette. “American horror is too often defined by Western European scares – vampires, werewolves, Victorian-style ghosts – and the truth is that this country is made up of communities who’ve brought their own unique folklore along with them.”

John Arcudi + Savannah Finley bring ‘Convert’ to Image Comics

The miniseries kicks off in August.

Veteran comics writer John Arcudi will return this summer with a new miniseries drawn by Savannah Finley. Convert is a science fiction story about a science officer who is stranded on an alien planet, where he’s haunted by his dead crew.

The writer of B.P.R.D., Major Bummer and more said the new series is a “more intimate” approach to science fiction for him.

Convert was maybe my first opportunity to write a science fiction story the way I wanted to, meaning something more personal, more intimate—while at the the same time more fantastic—than what I’m used to seeing in the genre,” Arcudi said. “My hope is that this human element in the comic will connect with readers.”

Starlin + Morales join the resistance in ‘Order and Outrage’

The miniseries will launch at Dark Horse next March.

Jim Starlin has taken us everywhere from the Empirical Galaxy to New Genesis to the Kree empire to Gotham City, but now he’s teaming with Rags Morales to create a brand new world besieged by social injustice and rebellion.

Dark Horse will publish Order and Outrage, a four-issue miniseries, next year. Starlin and Morales will be joined by colorist Hailey Brown and letterer Michael Heisler for the project.

“I’m super excited to work with the man who taught me how to draw space gauntlets, while perusing my copies of Captain Marvel back in the 1970s.” Morales said. “That, and if anyone knows me, knows how much of a political pain in the xxx I am. So Order and Outrage is my kinda story. Lookout Order, here comes the rebellion!”
