Spider-Gwen heads into space for a ‘dark and very personal’ story next year

Stephanie Phillips and Paolo Villanelli send Ghost Spider and Loki to the stars in March.

Stephanie Phillips brought Spider-Gwen to the 616 Earth under mysterious circumstances earlier this year, and now she and Paolo Villanelli will send the Ghost-Spider off-world in a new story arc that also features Loki.

The intergalactic storyline kicks off in Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #11, which comes out in March.

“I envisioned a Gwen and Loki storyline from the beginning of my work on Gwen, so this arc feels like the culmination of everything we’ve been building toward,” Phillips said. “Taking Gwen to space has allowed us to explore some unexpected elements of her character, especially as her optimism and hope clashes with King Loki’s nihilism. Paolo and I have worked hard to make this a unique sci-fi adventure—one that’s dark and very personal to Gwen.”

Black Widow + Hawkeye team up in a miniseries from Marvel

The first issue by Stephanie Phillips and Paolo Villanelli arrives in March of next year.

Hawkeye and Black Widow both turn 60 next year, having both debuted in the pages of Tales of Suspense back in 1964. To celebrate the duo, Marvel will release Black Widow and Hawkeye next year, a four-issue miniseries by Stephanie Phillips and Paolo Villanelli.

“I love getting the chance to dig deep with Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton to tell a fast-paced spy story that celebrates their 60th anniversary,” Phillips said. “Nothing is as it seems, and I’m having a ton of fun writing these characters. Not to mention they both look great for 60.”

Nocenti + Villanelli send Captain Marvel on a cosmic mission in ‘Dark Tempest’

The five-issue miniseries kicks off in July.

Although Kelly Thompson’s epic run on Captain Marvel ends with issue #50 in June, Carol Danvers won’t be off the shelves for long — she’ll star in a five-issue miniseries, Dark Tempest, starting in July.

Ann Nocenti, writer of Daredevil, Longshot, The Seeds and more, will team with Star Wars: Bounty Hunters artist Paolo Villanelli to take Captain Marvel on a cosmic adventure involving a new foe, a legacy Mar-Vell villain and a new group of young heroes.

“I became curious about Carol Danvers during Kelly Sue DeConnick’s iconic run on the book, because of how great her work is, but also at how deft Kelly Sue is at drawing in and embracing female readers,” Nocenti said. “Her Carol Corps is inspiring. Then I read some of Kelly Thompson’s work on the book, and her stories are so much rollicking fun, I fell in love with Carol Danvers all over again. Captain Marvel is a sassy, funny, kick-ass hoot, and so much fun to write.”
