Panosian goes for broke in Skybound’s ‘Slots’

Dan Panosian will write and draw a new series about a former boxer looking for redemption in Las Vegas.

Dan Panosian’s gritty, “dirty ’70s” art style is heading to the perfect locale, Las Vegas, for his new series Slots. Panosian will write and draw the new series from Skybound/Image Comics, which is due out in October.

“Producing this story is really a dream come true for me, and I have Image Comics and Skybound to thank for the experience,” said Panosian. “People throw the term ‘labor of love’ around pretty often, but every aspect of creating Slots has been a true joy for me. I’m very happy we can finally announce and share it with everyone.”

Here’s how Image describes the series:

You can say this about the life of Stanley Dance: he did it his way.

Unfortunately, his way never took getting old into account. Now, the former boxer is on his last legs, and looking for redemption…but he’ll settle for going down swinging.

Slots is a bold new take on Las Vegas, where everything old can become new, and superstition influences how the chips fall.

“Dan Panosian is a master. That’s the sales hook. He’s one of the finest illustrators in comics, so to have him create a comic from the ground up—writing, drawing, coloring—feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity. He even wanted to letter it himself, but we talked Pat Brosseau into it instead,” said Sean Mackiewicz, Skybound editor, on their website. “Slots is the story of Stanley Dance, a has-been boxer, searching for a third act in life that doesn’t end in tragedy. He was a bad father, a bad friend, a bad husband… but he was legitimately great in the ring. Slots is about Stanley discovering you can’t punch your way out of every situation, no matter how hard you try.”
