Today would have been the late Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday, but August of this year also brought another anniversary for a different “Kirby” entirely — the 25th anniversary of Nintendo’s Kirby character, the pink and round protagonist of the video game series.
Artist Kate Willaert decided to see what happens when the two anniversaries intersected.
“Monday, August 27 marks 100 years since the birth of Marvel universe co-creator Jack Kirby. Coincidentally, August 2017 also marks 25 years since Nintendo released Kirby’s Dream Land in the US,” she wrote on Tumblr. “Naturally, I couldn’t help but imagine what would happen if the two met…”
