Skybound has announced plans to re-release the entire Walking Dead comics series in color, starting in October.
Colorist Dave McCaig has been tapped to apply his coloring skills to The Walking Dead Deluxe, adding a new dimension to the original story by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. McCaig tweeted that he’s already colored more than 2,000 pages.
According to a press release from Image Comics, the color series will be presented as single issues and will not be released in trade paperback form “any time soon” — which is interesting, considering how the trade paperbacks and hardcover collections arguably drove the popularity of the series. The single issues will be available digitally.
The first issue will also feature a bunch of variant covers and bonus material:
This deluxe revival of the series will also feature a memorable array of variant covers—by such artists as David Finch, Tony Moore, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams—commemorating major character introductions and the series’ most memorable twists and turns. Each issue will include a new installment of “The Cutting Room Floor,” featuring Kirkman’s original handwritten plots along with commentary on abandoned storylines and plot points that may have changed along the way.
The first issue arrives Oct. 7.
