Marvel announces ‘The Trial of Magneto’ for August

Leah Williams and Lucas Werneck are the creative team for the upcoming miniseries.

Marvel has revealed more details about that teaser they released last week concerning Magneto, and it has some potential SPOILERS for an upcoming X-Men-related storyline. So consider yourself warned before reading further.

Coming in August is X-Men: The Trial of Magneto, the first of a five-part miniseries featuring the Master of Magnetism. It’s by the team of Leah Williams and Lucas Werneck.

The story spins out of the upcoming Hellfire Gala storyline that will run through the X-Men titles in June. Marvel.com has revealed that someone’s going to die at the event, in X-Factor #10, which is also the final issue of that series. But the X-Factor team will find themselves busy in this new miniseries, as they investigate the murder.

“When has Magneto ever allowed bureaucracy to get between himself and what’s just? In the island paradise of Krakoa, safe haven and home for mutants–Magneto’s hard-fought, greatest desire of seeing his people at peace and thriving has finally been achieved. But Magneto’s loyalty extends only as far as it is first earned, so after the Hellfire Gala, when he learns that even a paradise could still be filled with lies…the Trial of Magneto will begin,” Williams said.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a trial for Magneto; back in Uncanny X-Men #200, the now-former villain was put on trial in an issue that ended with him taking over for Professor X as a teacher for the New Mutants and a member of the X-Men.

The first issue arrives Aug. 18.
