‘Criminal Macabre’ returns as a graphic novel next year from Dark Horse

Steve Niles and Syzmon Kudranski team up for a new graphic novel featuring supernatural detective Cal McDonald.

Dark Horse has announced that Steve Niles and Szymon Kudranski will bring Niles’ supernatural detective, Cal McDonald, back for more macabre action in a self-contained hardcover graphic novel.

Criminal Macabre: Spirit of the Demon will bring McDonald out of retirement for more monster killing. It’s expected to arrive in stores next summer.

“For this graphic novel I’ve taken a slightly more serious approach to Cal McDonald,” Niles said. “It’s a much moodier piece, and the art by Szymon is dark. It’s about falling into Hell so it fits well.”

Here’s the description from Dark Horse:

Supernatural detective Cal McDonald, is ripped again from his self-imposed retirement to resume his monster-killing career after hunting down a serial-killing priest with a blood-draining knife on a trail leading him directly to the gates of Hell!

This new story follows several previous volumes of Cal McDonald stories, including Cell Block 666, Last Train to Deadsville and, most recently, The Big Bleed Out. Niles has also written prose stories featuring the character.

Criminal Macabre: Spirit of the Demon arrives in stores July 6 and will contain an introduction from horror director John Carpenter.
