Welcome to Can’t Wait for Comics, your guide to what comics are arriving in comic book stores, bookstores and on digital this week.
I’ve pulled out some of the highlights below, but for the complete list of everything you might find at your local comic shop and on digital this week, you’ll want to check out one or more of the following:
- Penguin Random House (Marvel + graphic novels + manga)
- Lunar Distribution (DC + Scout + more)
- Diamond’s PreviewsWorld (IDW + Image + Dark Horse + many more)
- ComicList (Pretty much all of the above)
- comiXology/Kindle new releases (digital comics)
As a reminder, things can change and what you find on the above lists may differ from what’s actually arriving in your local shop. So always check with your comics retailer for the final word on availability.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 (DC, $3.99): Mark Waid returns to DC in a big way with this new ongoing series featuring Batman, Superman, the wonderful artwork of Dan Mora and, in this first issue, an appearance by the Doom Patrol.
Carnage #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Venom co-writer Ram V and artist Francesco Manna team up to tell new stories about the Carnage symbiote, now on its own after separating from Cletus Kasady.
Eternals: Heretic (Marvel, $3.99): Kieron Gillen and Ryan Bodenheim (who passed away late last year) present a special issue of the Eternals featuring the origin of Uranos the Undying — an Eternal said to be even worse than Thanos.
Wonder Woman #785 (DC, $4.99): The Trial of the Amazons crossover continues in this issue, as Wonder Woman seeks out the killer of [REDACTED] and has a confrontation with Queen Nubia.
Fantastic Four: Reckoning War: Trial of the Watcher (Marvel, $4.99): This special, which ties into the Reckoning War event currently raging through the Fantastic Four, sheds some light on the First War, courtesy of Dan Slott and Javier Rodríguez.
Demon Days: Blood Feud (Marvel, $4.99): The final Demon Days special by Peach Momoko arrives this week, as Mariko Yashida finally confronts the swordswoman who has been hunting her and the big green bodyguard who accompanies her.
Stillwater: The Escape (Image, $4.99): Chip Zdarsky is joined by several different writers and artists for this special, which features stories about the residents of the deathless town he created with Ramon Perez. It features the works of Ethan Young, Andrew Wheeler, Jason Loo and Soo Lee.
Slumber #1 (Image, $3.99): Tyler Burton Smith and Vanessa Cardinali have dreamed up this tale of a nightmare detective who is tracking a serial killer who kills people in their sleep.
JLA/Avengers (Hero Initiative, $29.99): The classic crossover story by Kurt Busiek and George Perez returns in a very limited run that benefits the Hero Initiative. Many retailers will be auctioning off or raffling their copies to raise additional funds for the Hero Initiative, George Perez or other charities, while others are selling them outright for marked-up prices (again, for charity). Best of luck if you’re looking for a copy.
