DSTLRY , the new comics company formed by former Comixology execs David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, will release their first comic next month — The Devil’s Cut, an anthology featuring the work of Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Becky Cloonan, Jock, Tula Lotay and many of the other creators from the murderer’s row of talent they’ve recruited.
Not only has DSTLRY released preview pages from the 11 stories that will appear in it, they’ve also announced that eight of those stories will serve as springboards for new series that will launch later this year and next year.
“With The Devil’s Cut, a majority of the self-contained stories lay the foundation for series to come,” said DSTLRY CCO Chip Mosher. “To be crystal clear, these eight stories found in The Devil’s Cut are not previews, but the first appearances of new worlds from our Founding Creators and Friends.”
It’s fun to see some of the pairings here, like the 100 Bullets team of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, or the Night of the Ghoul team of Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla. Both of those teams will work together on a future series spinning out of The Devil’s Cut, along with the following:
“Spectregraph” by James Tynion IV, Christian Ward and Aditya Bidikar
“Shepherd” by Marc Bernardin, Ariela Kristantina, Lee Loughridge and Bernardo Brice
“8 Rules to Make It Out in One Piece” by Elsa Charretier, PK Colinet, Nick Filardi, and Clayton Cowles
“A Blessed Day” by Mirka Andolfo, Fabio Amelia, Arancia Studio and Steve Orlando
“The Stowaway” by Jock
“Deleted Scene, #2” by Brian Azzarello, Eduardo Risso and Jared K. Fletcher
“White Boat” by Scott Snyder, Francesco Francavilla, Andworld Design and Tyler Jennes
“What Blighted Flame Burns in Thee?” by Becky Cloonan, Tula Lotay and Richard Starkings
In addition, the anthology will feature three stand-alone stories:
“What’s Mine is Hearse” by Stephanie Phillips, Joëlle Jones and Lucas Gattoni
“What Happens Next…” by Jamie McKelvie and Aditya Bidikar
“Waiting to Die” by Ram V, Lee Garbett, Lee Loughridge and Aditya Bidikar
The comic will come with several variant covers. Here’s a look at the main cover by Jock, an open-to-order variant cover by Francesco Francavilla, and incentive variant covers by Becky Cloonan, Tula Lotay, Joëlle Jones and Mirka Andolfo:
“From its super-fresh covers to its meticulously-crafted interior stories, The Devil’s Cut is what comics can be when you bring together incredibly talented creators and let them have fun doing what they do best,” said Founding Editor Will Dennis. “We asked them for a statement book and they delivered beyond our wildest dreams!”
The Devil’s Cut will be distributed in comic shops and digitally by DSTLRY through Sept. 6, via their own proprietary web shop.
