Dynamite Entertainment has announced that The X-Files will return to comics with an all-new ongoing series, featuring a familiar name behind the typewriter: Joe Harris, the writer who previously brought Mulder and Scully back to comics for The X-Files: Season 10 and Season 11.
Harris has written more X-Files comic scripts than any other creator, and he’ll return to the franchise alongside artist Riley Brown, artist of Vault’s Dead Acre: Black Badge.
“The X-Files has always been sacred to me,” Harris said. “I am beyond honored to write them and I am absolutely over the moon to work with Dynamite on this new series.”
The new series will follow FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in stories set after the television series, with Dynamite promising more of the conspiracy-driven investigations, supernatural mysteries and monster-of-the-week stories that have defined The X-Files since its television debut in 1993.
The announcement marks another collaboration between Dynamite and Disney, owner of 20th Century Studios and properties like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and The X-Files. Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci called The X-Files “the next jewel in the crown” of the company’s work with the 20th Century properties.
For Harris, meanwhile, the new series represents a return to a franchise that has been a significant part of his comics career. His X-Files work began with Season 10, which launched in 2013 at IDW and continued the television series in comic-book form, followed by Season 11.
